Alia Yachts has launched its 55m (180ft) superyacht AL WAAB II, after a tight build schedule that was completed just 24 months after her contract was signed.
The impact of the Coronavirus pandemic meant that much of the design work, which came courtesy of Dutch design studio Vripack, was carried out remotely with the Middle-Eastern owner. Tech tools like virtual reality were used so he could get a better sense of how areas might appear.
Alia President, Gökhan Çelik, praised the efforts of his shipyard: “The last two years have been difficult, but we took a lot of health and safety measures, and to offset delays experienced by our European suppliers we worked around the problem and found ways to recreate lost time. The fact we’ve done it in just over two years despite everything is a credit to the determination of the men and women who work here.”
The Owner’s brief called for a ‘modern and fresh design’ that would be like a home away from home on water. In keeping with this request motor yacht AL WAAB II features large outdoor spaces, such as the Owner’s aft deck and beach club, and open plan interiors accentuated by enlarged windows.
The sub 500GT superyacht can accommodate up to 12 guests across her six staterooms, which includes a master suite split across two decks. She is the first superyacht to have been launched from the shipyard's new 2,000-ton ship lift, part of the Antalya Free Zone investment.
The superyacht will now undergo sea trials, as well as her final outfitting, before she is delivered to her owner in the coming months. She is due to make her public debut at the 2021 Monaco Yacht Show in September.
Alia Yachts is located in the port of Antalya where the launch of motor yacht AL WAAB II took place. According to YachtBuyer intelligence, it has delivered eight yachts, and motor yacht AL WAAB II will take its place as the yard’s second-largest build on delivery, sitting behind 60.2m (198ft) superyacht SAMURAI, delivered in 2017.
The yard also has another two yachts in build, one of which is the 36m (118ft) support yacht PHI PHANTOM which will act as a support vessel to the 58.5m (192ft) Royal Huisman motor yacht PHI, the world’s longest motor yacht in the sub-500GT category.
