Meet the 55m Steel Serena: Heesen’s first superyacht delivery of the year

Heesen Yachts has delivered the 55m superyacht Serena, marking the first delivery of 2025 from the Dutch shipyard.

As the latest hull in the successful Heesen Yachts 55m Steel series, Serena completed her sea trials in October and is now en route to Limassol, Cyprus.

The superyacht features exterior styling by Omega Architects, interiors by Luca Dini Design & Architecture, and naval architecture by Van Oossanen. She is the second in the series to feature a reworked exterior profile, characterised by sleeker lines, expanded glazing, and refined deck layouts.

One of the key updates in Serena's design includes the removal of mullions in the saloon and skylounge to create cleaner sightlines. Additional exterior changes include a squared Jacuzzi, an extended sundeck with improved crew access, and a more angular profile achieved through continuous tinted glass surfaces. The owner’s suite also features a French balcony—an addition that increases the sense of openness in the forward cabin.

The interior reflects the owner's vision of a comfortable, relaxed environment suitable for extended periods on board. Rich materials like smoked eucalyptus, velvet finishes, and Amazonite marble feature throughout. Seating has been configured for comfort, and the layout promotes easy flow between indoor and outdoor areas. The main saloon includes a bar area that connects to the aft deck, while the skylounge features a second bar and a bespoke games table.

Accommodation onboard the yacht is for 12 guests across five staterooms. The owner’s apartment occupies the forward section of the main deck and includes a private veranda, office space, and a spacious full-beam bedroom. Four guest cabins are situated on the lower deck—two doubles and two twins with Pullman berths—each with en suite bathrooms finished in unique marbles. A gym is located on the bridge deck and can be converted into a sixth guest cabin if needed. Crew quarters accommodate up to 13.

Heesen’s Chief Operations Officer Rick van de Wetering described Serena as “a unique blend of engineering and custom design,” while Arcon Yachts’ Richard Kaye praised the refinements made throughout the build to meet the owner’s brief. According to shipyard captain Bob van Zundert, despite her 760GT volume, Serena remains agile and easy to handle—offering the stability of a steel yacht with the responsiveness of lighter builds.

Outdoor spaces on the motor yacht have been designed with versatility in mind. The 110-square-metre sundeck includes modular furniture and forward-facing seating for panoramic views. Casual dining areas are located throughout, and the beach club, which now includes windows and a sauna, functions as a quiet waterside retreat.

Performance is built around Heesen’s ultra-efficient fast displacement hull form (FDHF), delivering a top speed of 15.5 knots and a cruising speed of 13 knots. Powered by twin MTU 8V 4000 M63 engines, Serena has a transatlantic range of 4,500 nautical miles. Zero-speed stabilisers enhance comfort both underway and at anchor.

Expanding the 55m Steel Series

The 55m Steel series continues to grow, with Iris Blue—delivered in 2024—being the most recent predecessor to Serena.

Several more are in the pipeline: Solemates and Project Agnetha, both scheduled for delivery in 2025, and Project Angelica, expected in 2027. Each yacht in the series shares the same 760GT platform and 12-guest layout, with the opportunity for personalisation across interiors and deck arrangements, reinforcing the series' reputation for flexibility, range, and custom detail.

With Serena now delivered, she sets the tone for what promises to be a busy year at Heesen, which currently has 11 yachts in build, including the 61m Project Ceres.
