Asian yachting market witnesses promising growth in sales

Showing resilience against the ongoing global pandemic, yacht sales in Asia indicate a strong future for the region with yachting popularity growing at a steady pace.

Multiple Asian shipyards including Ocean Alexander have witnessed an uptick in sales, with order books filling up fast for 2021 and even 2022.

So what is the driving force behind the increased attraction in the Asian yachting market? With coronavirus now seemingly becoming a semi-permanent influence on how we travel, the appeal of yachting as a reliable means of luxury lifestyle, escape and holidaying is unarguable.

Buying a yacht gives Owners a boundless sense of freedom, one that is largely untroubled by the 'new normal', still allowing for voyages where local restrictions allow.

Taiwanese shipyard Horizon is just one example of the noticeable increase in demand, with 13 yachts on their order book for 2021/2022 delivery. Some of which are built on speculation, there's a good selection of yachts from the fleet of Horizon yachts for sale, including the popular FD92 and FD102 models.

Ocean Alexander also showcases a positive order book with 10 yachts scheduled for 2021. Unlike the breadth of models sold by Horizon, the upcoming launches from Ocean Alexander largely rotate around its new Legend range which debuted in 2020 with the 32L and 36L.

Not quite the Far East, but another shipyard worth noting is Sirena Yachts, which has maintained a steady level of sales, with three flagship Sirena 88 units in 2020 and a further three on the books so far for 2021.

Reports from brokers regarding other globally known shipyards such as Sanlorenzo, also claim there has been a significant number of sales in the Asian continent. With Sanlorenzo representatives stating that 23.5% of its sales in 2020 had come from the region.

Indications of the continual growth in the Asian market is not only seen in yacht sales, but also through the multiple development projects of local marinas, including the Hong Kong Lantau Yacht Club and a new 50-berth marina in the Andaman Islands.
