The 30.5m (100’) Ferretti 1000 and 29m (95’) Princess X95 are delivering huge increases in onboard space when compared to other similarly sized flybridge yachts for sale. So how are these yachts achieving what builders have been striving for for decades?
In mid-2018, British shipyard Princess announced the X95, a new evolution of the flybridge superyacht class. In January, Ferretti followed suit when they unveiled the 1000. Although different in some key ways, both yachts have maxed out on volume with huge main and upper decks.
Introducing the ‘Superfly’
British builder Princess is the market leader in flybridge production yachts, so it seems apt that it would be the first to introduce something genuinely new to the genre. Backed up by serious claims on increased interior volume, Princess calls its new design, debuting on the X95, the ‘Superfly’.
However, the ‘Superfly’ name can also apply to the Ferretti 1000, since it uses similar techniques to maximise space inside and out.
Increased interior space
Both the 1000 and X95 have superstructures that are longer, wider and taller, and this is where the interior gains come from. Each yacht gets vast living spaces and, on the main deck, room for a generous owner’s stateroom.
A big superstructure subsequently allows for a larger upper deck. Here, the Ferretti sticks to a traditional open flybridge, but the Princess adds an upper lounge and wheelhouse. It’s a design that changes the flybridge dynamic into something more spacious and comfortable.
On the lower deck of the 1000 and X95 are four guest cabins, making each yacht capable of accommodating up to ten guests overall. Princess offers several layouts, with various main and below deck options.
The [X95’s] layout provides 10% more outdoor space and 40% more indoor space than a traditional motor yacht.

Princess X95 flybridge: creative inside and spacious outside
The X95 boasts a flybridge that’s almost 22m (72’) long, stretching a good way forward. The design gives this motor yacht incredibly generous exteriors spaces with a fore and aft deck and that upper lounge in the middle.
The foredeck has a large sunpad front and centre, which can convert into a luxurious jacuzzi dip pool. A C-shaped sofa is immediately forward of the wheelhouse, too. Aft, there’s swathes of space, plus a circular dining table that’s able to comfortably seat all ten of the X95’s guests.
The X95 boasts a flybridge that’s almost 22m (72’) long, stretching forward all the way to the bow.
Guests can also enjoy two sun loungers to both bask in the rays and relish in a wide ocean view, thanks to the transparent glass bulwarks. Or, if they’re feeling more communal, they can sit on one of the two sofas that surround a central coffee table.
The steps on the starboard side of the flybridge’s exterior lead directly down to the main deck aft. It flaunts a tender garage and, forward, a pair of stern-facing seats that promise more harmonious sights.
Most impressively, the flybridge offers yet more interior space amidships, aft of the wheelhouse that’s concealed by a sliding door. The communal space inside has portside steps that lead directly to the main salon, not to mention a comfortable seating area that can be used for interior dining.
Ferretti 1000 flybridge: sociable and panoramic
The 1000 follows a more conventional layout; its flybridge is completely open with a hardtop delivering shade and shelter. However, the design is similarly impressive on scale, covering the vast majority of the 1000’s LOA.
Forward, the flybridge has a generously sized sunning area, with two big pads side by side. Another, even more sizable one is placed immediately aft, allowing multiple guests to simultaneously socialise and sunbathe.
Also under the flybridge’s canopy is a large dining area with both chairs and a sofa, while, to starboard, there’s a bar and galley area to serve guests.
The Ferretti 1000 is more conventional; its flybridge promises more open air, shielded by a hard-top canopy over the helm.
Whereas the X95 has that single raised wheelhouse, the 1000 has a flybridge helm and a lower helm station, the latter accessed via steps amidships, forward of the main deck’s dining area.
Aft, three comfortable sofas orbit a small table, letting the 1000 again blend enjoyment of the elements with a communal atmosphere.
More communal areas can be found down the steps on the main deck aft. Not only is there a sofa looking out past the stern, but there are also two forward for some alfresco dining.
‘Super Flybridge’ vs. flybridge yachts
With these new yachts, Princess and Ferretti are truly evolving the 30m (98.5’) flybridge market, unarguably generating more interior space than traditional designs while still maintaining a very similar price tag and levels of performance.
