Giangrasso Group: From Subcontractor to Boutique Yacht Builder

For over a decade, Giangrasso Group has built a strong reputation as a subcontractor for Europe’s premier shipyards, but now they are making their mark with their own line of luxury yachts.

With a deep-rooted passion for shipbuilding and a commitment to bespoke craftsmanship, the company is charting its own course in the competitive world of semi-custom and custom yacht building. We take a look at their journey so far, including an exclusive YachtBuyer interview with CEO Bartolomeo Giangrasso, where he discusses the brand's vision, creations, and future ambitions.

Founded in 2009 by Bartolomeo Giangrasso, the company initially specialized in hull construction, technical outfitting, and survey work. Over the years, Giangrasso Group earned a reputation for precision engineering and high-quality work, providing structural and technical components for some of the biggest names in yachting. Operating from Viareggio—a city synonymous with shipbuilding excellence—the company became a key player in Europe’s yacht manufacturing supply chain.

The entire team and I share a deep passion for shipbuilding. After years of working behind the scenes for other shipyards, we wanted to bring our own vision to life.

But for Giangrasso, shipbuilding is more than just a business—it’s a lifelong passion. After nearly 15 years of supporting other shipyards, the company’s leadership made the strategic decision to establish its own brand, designing and constructing yachts under the Giangrasso name. This transition marks a significant evolution, transforming the firm from a behind-the-scenes specialist into a boutique yacht builder with its own vision and product range.

The Birth of the Giangrasso Fleet

The company’s first model, the Giangrasso G24 Classic, will make its official debut at the 2025 Cannes Yachting Festival. The design embodies the timeless elegance that the company aims to bring to the market, featuring a fully aluminum hull and interiors designed by the renowned Michela Reverberi.

Beyond the G24 Classic, Giangrasso Group is developing a range of models, each designed with owner customization in mind:

  • G25: Features a beach club and extended terraces.

  • G30: A more spacious yacht with two fully covered decks.

  • G34: Incorporates a sundeck, sauna, and versatile tender storage.

  • Sport Line: A performance-focused series inspired by vintage Italian sports cars, featuring a retractable roof and seamless indoor-outdoor living.

With a facility capable of constructing yachts up to 50 meters, Giangrasso Group is positioning itself as a boutique shipyard specializing in fully customized aluminum yachts.

Every yacht we build can be tailored to the owner’s desires. Unlike mass-produced yachts, we adapt our designs based on personal requests.

A Family-Oriented Future

Despite its expansion, Giangrasso Group is committed to maintaining a hands-on, family-driven approach. The shipyard aims to grow steadily while preserving the close-knit culture that has defined its success. As the company embarks on this new journey, it remains dedicated to offering owners something unique: truly tailor-made yachts crafted with passion and precision.

This shift also aligns with a broader industry trend of smaller shipyards making a mark by focusing on personalization and quality over mass production. In an era where yacht buyers seek exclusivity and unique designs, Giangrasso Group’s commitment to customization gives it an advantage.

Additionally, the company has entered an exclusive partnership with Ocean Independence, a globally recognized yacht brokerage, to handle sales and marketing of its new fleet. This collaboration ensures that Giangrasso’s yachts receive the right exposure to discerning clientele worldwide.

YachtBuyer's Exclusive Q&A with CEO Bartolomeo Giangrasso

At the 2025 BOOT Düsseldorf show, YachtBuyer sat down with Giangrasso Group to discuss their transition, design philosophy, and vision for the future.

Q: Giangrasso Group has a strong history as a subcontractor. What made you decide to launch your own brand?

A: The entire team and I share a deep passion for shipbuilding. After years of working behind the scenes for other shipyards, we wanted to bring our own vision to life. We have the experience, the expertise, and the infrastructure, so we decided it was time to build our own yachts.

Q: The size of yachts you operate in is a highly competitive market. What sets your yachts apart?

A: Every yacht we build can be tailored to the owner’s desires. Unlike mass-produced yachts, we adapt our designs based on personal requests. For example, if a client wants a completely covered sundeck, we handle the entire design and engineering process in-house. Our yachts are also built in aluminum, which allows greater flexibility than traditional GRP hulls.

Q: The G24 Classic is your first official model. Why start with this design?

A: The G24 Classic exemplifies timeless elegance—hence the name ‘Classic.’ It’s a yacht designed to be beautiful today, tomorrow, and 50 years from now. We’ve worked with designer Michela Reverberi to ensure the interiors match this philosophy: simple, sophisticated, and without trends that will age quickly.

Q: Your company has also introduced a ‘Sport Line.’ Can you tell us more about this?

A: The Sport Line is inspired by classic Italian sports cars—Ferrari and Lamborghini. The key feature is a retractable roof that disappears into the ceiling, creating an open-air lounge from bow to stern. It’s available in multiple sizes, from 18m to 27m, with or without a flybridge.

Q: Sustainability is a growing concern in the yachting industry. How is the Giangrasso Group addressing this?

A: Aluminum construction is significantly more eco-friendly than GRP. It’s recyclable and requires less energy to produce. We’re also researching sustainable materials for interiors and systems to reduce environmental impact. While this is an ongoing process, we are committed to making sustainability a core part of our future designs.

Q: Where do you see Giangrasso Group in five to ten years?

A: Our focus is on creating exceptional yachts, not becoming a large-scale builder. We started as a family-run company, and we want to maintain that culture. Our goal is to grow steadily while keeping our core values intact—personalized craftsmanship, high-quality construction, and strong relationships with owners.
