Russian Sanctions: Meridian A to be seized by Spanish court

Sanctioned yacht Meridian A is to be seized by the Spanish courts after failing to make payments for works carried out in Barcelona.

Owned by the CEO of Rostec, Sergey Chemezov, Meridian A has been a frozen asset since March 2022.

Featured on sanctions lists in the US and EU since 2014, Sergey Chemezov, connected to Russia's largest technology and defence group, now faces this authorized seizure from the Spanish courts.

Initially sanctioned due to his support of Crimea being annexed, Sergey Chemezov now has a new headache, in spite of hiding the 85m (278.8ft) Lurssen superyacht under the name of Anastasia Ignatova, Chemezov's stepdaughter.

The latest proceedings have been initiated with a complaint being placed by MB92 Barcelona saying that payments for work stopped soon after Chemezov's assets were frozen, in response to the ongoing crisis in Ukraine.

As confirmed by a transport ministry source, the halt in payments resulted in Meridian A being moved from MB92 Barcelona to Marina Vela as the legal process set in.

Previously known as VALERIE, it is currently unknown what will happen to the 85m superyacht, however, there are still plenty more opportunities to own an indulgent superyacht.
