Moonen Yachts Saved From Bankruptcy By New Australian Owners

Dutch shipyard Moonen Yachts have been saved from financial difficulty after they found new buyers to invest in the superyacht brand. Following a devastating court ruling of bankruptcy in the Netherlands, Matthew and Louise Baxter came to the rescue and bought the struggling company.

Within weeks of announcing the search for new investors, the new Australian owners secured their place with the shipyard and are already in talks about two potential new launches for the Dutch brand. All new designs for a 36 and 44 metre vessel are the new speculation projects set to begin within the next six months, as of yet no details regarding design have been released.

Entrepreneur Matthew Baxter is a well known successful Australian businessman who established the A M Group in 1972.

As a privately owned group of worldwide manufacturing companies, the A M Group has prepared Baxter for the new challenge of owning and developing the iconic Dutch superyacht brand.

It is a privilege to own a yard like Moonen. The brand has an impeccable pedigree, the yachts are true Dutch quality and the team is young, reliable, talented, and very loyal to the company. These characteristics are fundamental for success. I realise that the yard has to re-energise, but we are well prepared with a strong strategic plan and a strong balance sheet, I see a promising future ahead.

To ensure the same level of premium quality of the builds, the majority of the workforce have retained their positions within the brand and they are reported to be enthusiastic about the change and strong new leadership.

We have trust in these new investors and have faith that they will establish a strong future for Moonen Yachts. The 30 to 50 metre market is solid for well-built designs, and our plans are to increase production. Currently we have one, award winning, 36-meter Martinique in build, she’s 50% ready. The focus is to have her on display at the Monaco Yacht Show 2020.

The two speculative builds of the 36 and 44 metre vessel are already in their development stages and are expected to have shorter delivery times. In addition to the quicker turnaround on the new yachts, there will still be some time for customisation without hindering the delivery time, much to the advantage of potential buyers.

Although design details are yet to be announced, the interiors of the Moonen Yachts are set to be created by the world renowned names like Studio Indigo.
