The Italian design firm Hot Lab has revealed plans for the Superleggera 80, an 80m (262ft) superyacht concept developed in collaboration with the Dutch shipyard Oceanco.
This new concept is part of Oceanco’s Simply Custom initiative, which features an 80-meter platform designed by Lateral Naval Architects. Oceanco has invited various design studios to create unique concepts based on this common naval architecture and engineering platform, with Hot Lab being one of 17 design firms participating.
Hot Lab's design for the Superleggera 80 encompasses both the exterior and interior, drawing inspiration from 1960s automotive design. The four-deck superyacht features a six-stateroom layout and aims for a soft, minimal aesthetic that subtly echoes the style of sailing.
We wanted the design to be soft and minimal, subtly related to the sailing style, edgeless, and with a great continuity of surfaces. We aimed to break some recurring patterns, such as the typical stern of a yacht with its staircases and hatches. For this, we concealed both under a veil of teak.”

The interiors of the Superleggera 80 are described as bright and contemporary, featuring curved furniture, integrated lighting, wood, and bright-lacquered finishes.
Everyone has their own vision of beauty and elegance, but for us, it means designing ‘less,’ removing rather than adding, cleaning rather than cluttering."

The design team aimed to evoke a sense of awe in the expansive penthouse, highlighted by a main atrium that stands over 5m (16ft) tall and includes a central bar illuminated by a skylight. The yacht's beach club at the stern includes a gymnasium with an opening balcony, while the aft deck boasts a glass-ended pool.
