Video Tour
On Deck
The wide bathing platform has details like a boarding ladder, transom shower, and lighting. The cockpit has a good size, noting a space for directors' chairs and a table. He pointed out practical elements like the manual bilge pumping system, the automatic fire extinguishing system, and a decent amount of storage.
Nick highlighted the yacht's flush bonded glass, which gives it a contemporary look, and the easily accessed flybridge with its seating area and upper helm. The flybridge also featured a refrigerated drinks locker and a bimini top for shade.
Interior
Inside, the yacht is very high quality with cherry woodwork, tan leather, and carpets. He called attention to the bar area, central heating controls, and a large locker that could be adapted to hold a fridge. Of particular note was a freestanding table that could be moved to transform the seating area into a double bed, providing additional sleeping space.
Nick admired the detailing, from the wooden fillers with inset lights in the ceiling to the matte black helm to prevent reflection. Mentioned were the at the helm, multifunction display, the bow thruster and stern thruster, speed, autopilot, and depth features as well. He also noted the windscreen de-misters, describing the yacht as having a very nice UK spec.
In the lower deck, there is a clever two-step design, which allows for a separate but not isolated galley. The ample storage, the electric cooking facilities, and the generator that allows all amenities to be used while at anchor are all impressive. In addition, he pointed out hidden storage voids under the floor and under the steps, which could be used for extra food or small appliances.
The yacht featured two cabins and two heads, with the master cabin in the bow. The trim detail, the storage spaces, and the swivel-mounted TV were admired. The cabin also had its own ensuite with a wraparound shower screen, electric flush toilet, and more storage. The second cabin was noted for its headroom, storage, and a possible option to convert the beds into a double bed. The day head, which could serve as an ensuite for the second cabin at night, was similarly well-appointed.
Performance
The Princess 42 also has extensive storage in the lazarette and a large engine space with a pair of D6-435 Volvo Penta engines, which were appreciated for their simplicity and performance. The engines will give a top speed of 30 knots, cruising at 25 knots will provide a range of about 300 nautical miles.
In Summary
Overall, Nick found the Princess 42 to be a very manageable boat, great for a family or friends, and suitable for serious cruising. He was impressed by the yacht's quality, thoughtful design, and attention to detail.
