Design & Construction
Designed around a displacement iron hull she features a 42'8" beam and a 17'5" draft. The yacht is built over 5 decks with an internal volume of 4,560 GT (Gross Tonnes).
Launched in August 1865 this yacht undertook sea trials over the following months. She was delivered to her owners in September 1865.
Exterior Design
In 1863, a decree was issued to construct the first Egyptian Royal yacht, envisioned as a floating palace. The task was entrusted to a British boat builder, resulting in the creation of a steamer ship with extraordinary styling, symbolizing the prosperity and greatness of the Egyptian kings. Adorned with a trident on the bow sprit and an ornate golden bird in flight with accompanying insignia, the yacht's design aimed to embody elegance and power.
The sleek and purposeful lines, along with covered walkways, exude sophistication throughout. The cream superstructure serves as the backdrop for a massive funnel, symbolizing the vessel's formidable power. Wood features prominently in the exterior design, extending to an array of tenders and lifeboats suspended on each side.
Interior Design
The original vision for the yacht's interior styling was to showcase representations of all civilizations that thrived in Egypt. Ornate wall lights, monogrammed gilt and burgundy chairs, and intricate balustrades adorning grand staircases contribute to the opulent atmosphere.
Heavily paneled wood walls, accompanied by recessed lighting in cabins, create a dark yet inviting ambiance, infusing spaces with a touch of grandeur. Covered walkways feature rich burgundy carpets, steamer chairs, and carefully placed plantings, adding a natural element and visual interest.
Portholes and brass handrails enhance the nautical theme, while blue furniture accented by dark wood and tassel features adds a luxurious touch. Geometric patterning on wall panels and heavy window drapes contribute to the overall rich and sophisticated interior design, making each space a warm and inviting haven.
