Design & Construction

Designed around a full displacement steel hull and an aluminium superstructure she features a 8.81m beam and a 2.87m draft. The yacht is built over 3 decks with an internal volume of 407 GT (Gross Tonnes).

She was delivered to her owners in December 1991.

Exterior Design

Joalmi's exterior design reflects a focus on functionality and aesthetic simplicity. The hull is painted a pale ivory color, enhancing the vessel's clean lines while avoiding the exaggerated radar arch commonly seen on many superyachts. The construction utilizes a welded steel hull and an aluminum alloy superstructure, ensuring durability and structural integrity.

The bridge offers a functional and open space, equipped with navigation and communication tables on either side. A raised sofa allows guests to observe navigation activities comfortably. For outdoor meals, both the main deck and the boat deck provide suitable dining areas. The main deck features a rectangular table shaded by the deck above, while the boat deck offers an oval table with greater privacy and panoramic views once the boats are launched.

Interior Design

Joalmi's interior design, crafted by English designer Terence Disdale, follows a coherent decorative theme throughout the yacht. The interior features hand-woven herringbone wool carpets in ivory, limed oak for bulkheads and joinery, and Serpentini marble in all bathrooms. The use of natural materials such as wood, silk, wool, and leather is prevalent, chosen not only for their aesthetic appeal but also for their safety benefits.

The main lobby, entered from the starboard side-deck, immediately presents a modern, sculptured look typical of Disdale's style. It includes a mirror-backed display cabinet and carpeted stairs leading to the upper deck. The dining room, located aft of the entrance lobby, is a modern and dignified area. It features a large oval 12-seater glass-topped table with oak edging, two full-height storage cupboards, and two marble-topped buffet cabinets. Sliding screens allow the dining area to be opened up to the saloon or closed off during meal preparations.

The main saloon offers a large, comfortable space with a semi-circular white leather settee, twin coffee tables, and a large cabinet that conceals the TV and hi-fi system. The ceiling design in the main compartments features convex gloss lacquered strips and ribs, providing a soft reflection of light.

The upper saloon is designed to be semi-outdoors in character, with wood-paneled walls and ceiling that reinforce an informal atmosphere. It includes a bar and a large blue suede sofa, making it a preferred spot for relaxation. A small pantry behind the bar is equipped with a food lift from the main galley.

The bridge is designed to be large and open, with navigation and communication tables on either side. For guests interested in observing the operations, a raised sofa provides a clear view over the helm. The galley is well-appointed, and the crew dines in a dinette section with outboard views, enhancing the overall ambiance and providing additional space for the chef during meal preparations.

Accommodation

Joalmi offers accommodation for a total of 10 guests in five well-appointed cabins. The owner's private suite is situated at the forward end of the main deck. Entering through a dedicated study, this suite features oak-paneled walls and a burr oak desk. The master stateroom is finished in light limed oak, with a hint of color from the pale blue and brown Thai silk-covered chairs, cushions, and bed cover. Facing the double bed is a marble cabinet housing an entertainment center. Despite the narrowing hull towards the bow, the suite remains spacious and practical.

The main guest accommodation is located forward of the engine room. This area includes two double guest cabins and three smaller twin cabins, each with its own ensuite bathroom. The cabins are uniformly decorated with slub silk wall paneling and limed oak bed frames. However, individual Thai silk ikat-design bed covers and cushions add a touch of personalization to each cabin.

Joalmi’s design also caters well to the needs of the crew. The captain’s cabin is traditionally situated aft of the bridge. Forward on the lower deck, there are three double crew cabins. An additional crew cabin aft of the engine room allows for a proper laundry and linen store. The crew dining area is located in a section of the main galley, providing a pleasant dining ambiance with outboard views.

Performance & Capabilities

Powered by twin diesel MTU (12V 396 TE84) 2,040hp engines, motor yacht Joalmi is capable of reaching a top speed of 20 knots, and comfortably cruises at 18 knots. With her 48,000 litre fuel tanks she has a maximum range of 3,100 nautical miles at 18 knots.
