  • 16-foot swimming platform
  • Two helipads
  • Array of water sports and exploration gear
  • Guest elevator
  • Stabilizers for comfort in rough waters

Design & Construction

Designed around a displacement ice class steel hull and a steel/aluminium superstructure she features a 17.68m beam and a 4.6m draft. The yacht is built over 5 decks with an internal volume of 5,556 GT (Gross Tonnes). The design also incorporates a heli-pad.

Construction started in early 1999. The yacht was designed and constructed in compliance with the Lloyds Register technical standards. Launched in March 2000 this yacht undertook sea trials over the following months. She was delivered to her owners in May 2000.

Exterior Design

Tasked with accommodating additional vessels, such as the 22m (73 ft) sailing yacht, Bellatrix, and the 21m (68 ft) motor yacht, Sirius A., the yacht also features space for two Buzzi sports boats and a landing craft carrying a 4x4 Land Rover. Equipped with two helipads on the superstructure and aft deck, the vessel caters to both luxury and functionality, ready to host 20 guests and 35 crew members.

Le Grand Bleu boasts a stylish build that balances practicality with sophistication. Prominent helipads and strategically placed rescue vessels demonstrate its commitment to safety and functionality. This superyacht proudly showcases its intricate workings. The high dark blue decks, featuring numerous side openings, ensure easy access to the water and transport facilities. The transom, extended by the second owner, Roman Abramovich, adds a beach club that was absent in the original design.

The foredeck serves as the operational hub with deck gear, anchoring systems, and space for a large tender. Forward-facing guest space is limited, allowing for a couple of steamer chairs in front of large vertical windows and a pleasant walk around. The rear helipad, set on a tower separate from the main deck, provides dedicated landing space. Beyond this, guests can enjoy impressive outdoor spaces, including a pool on the main deck, dining areas, and inviting relaxation spots. Descending to the lower deck, the extended transom offers shade under matching dark blue canopies against a teak deck. A private lounge is accessible from the cabin just beneath the rear helipad.

Le Grand Bleu stands tall; this is not an uncluttered and sleek design by any stretch of the imagination, she radiates power and functionality - a bit like showing the workings of your Rolex rather than wearing it discreetly.

Interior Design

The yacht is privately owned, and interior photographs have not been made available.

Accommodation

Le Grand Bleu offers accommodation for up to 20 guests in 10 suites comprising an owners cabin. She is also capable of carrying up to 35 crew onboard to ensure a relaxed luxury yacht experience.

Powered by twin diesel Deutz (SBV 16M 628) 16-cylinder 4,570hp engines, motor yacht Le Grand Bleu is capable of reaching a top speed of 19 knots, and comfortably cruises at 17 knots. She has been fitted with stabilizers to increase on-board comfort when the yacht is at anchor, particularly in rough waters.
