Design & Construction
Designed around a displacement steel hull and an aluminium superstructure she features a 41' beam and a 12'2" draft. The yacht has an internal volume of 1,698 GT (Gross Tonnes).
Construction started in late 2008. The yacht was designed and constructed in compliance with the Lloyds Register technical standards. Launched in October 2011 this yacht undertook sea trials over the following months. She was delivered to her owners in March 2012.
Exterior Design
Mogambo's exterior design is sleek and sporty, drawing strong influence from automotive design. The hull is painted grey, the superstructure is white, and the boot top is black. The yacht's distinctive look is further defined by the sundeck's winged overhang with flared tips and a two-tone finish, enhancing its sports-car appearance.
From the swim platform, sweeping stairs lead up to the aft main deck, featuring an outdoor lounge partially covered by the overhanging deck above and a removable sun awning. This area includes four large sofas, an aft sunning area, and one of the three dining tables aboard.
The sundeck is divided into three areas: aft of the mast with sun pads and a seating area around a table, forward with a spa pool and more sun pads, and an air-conditioned gym with floor-to-ceiling windows offering the best views aboard. The matte wall of the mast serves as a cinema screen, adding functionality to the design.
Interior Design
The interior design of Mogambo is characterized by its sleek and sporty aesthetic, influenced heavily by automotive design. The main saloon features a focal point of backlit triptych artwork created by DKT of London, which resembles desert sand dunes. This artwork, highlighted by copper leaf and metallic accents, provides the primary color in the three-sectioned room. The furniture in the salon is upholstered in silk, with seating split along the center line, mirroring each other across the layout.
The materials used throughout Mogambo include ebony American walnut for the floors and dark sycamore for the walls. These dark elements are balanced by large floor-to-ceiling windows that allow natural light to flood the space. White ceilings and recessed LED cove lighting further enhance the brightness and counteract the darker wood tones.
Attention to detail is evident in each piece of furniture. A custom-made ebony walnut bar features a recessed carved panel, with bronzed metal details to match the yacht's door hardware. This carved paneling is a recurring theme throughout the vessel, often enhanced with metal flower-printed plates.
The dining area includes a table veneered in taupe-stained rippled sycamore, with a dimmable light box running almost its entire length. The dining chairs, designed by Reymond Langton and made by Henrik Lang of Germany, have organic shapes and soft curves, contrasting with the straight lines of the room's architecture. These chairs are lacquered to match the table and feature a six-tone fur inlay on the backrest.
Lighting throughout the yacht is strategically placed to minimize the use of downlights. High-powered LED cove lighting reflects off the matte white ceilings, providing a bold lighting solution. This lighting technique is also used in the master suite and other areas.
The interior spaces include an upper salon on the bridge deck, furnished in taupe and featuring sycamore walls. This salon contrasts with the darker main saloon and includes two glass sculptures. The cinema room on the bridge deck offers daybed seating, surround sound, and a professional screen, providing a dedicated space for entertainment.
Accommodation
Mogambo can accommodate up to 12 guests across its well-appointed cabins. The master suite is located on the main deck and is accessed through custom-carved paneled doors. This suite features an expansive bedroom and a study area with a desk that faces the starboard side. A unique feature of the study is a large portion of the wall that hinges downwards at the press of a button to create a balcony.
The study also serves as an additional bedroom, with a bed that folds out from a hidden compartment. The master suite takes full advantage of the yacht's beam, offering ample space and a subtle integration of various design elements. It includes four different wardrobes to cater to both the owner's and charter guests' belongings.
Mogambo features a variety of guest cabins designed for flexibility and comfort. Located on the bridge deck, the VIP cabin can be converted into a twin cabin to suit different guest requirements. There are four double cabins located below deck. Two of these cabins can also be converted into twin cabins, enhancing the versatility of the accommodation. Each cabin is delicately appointed in creamy shades of taupe, with throw pillows introducing hints of color seen in specially commissioned paintings.
She is also capable of carrying up to 17 crew onboard to ensure a relaxed luxury yacht experience.
