  • Top speed of 18 knots

Design & Construction

Nahlin was built as yard number 533 in Clydebank, Glasgow, and launched in April 1930. The dimensions are 91.4m (300ft) in length overall, with an 11.0m (36.2ft) beam and draught of 5.7m (18.8ft). When built her tonnage was 1,392 GRT. Nahlin is constructed with a teak deck, a steel hull, and a superstructure made of both steel and wood.

Exterior Design

Nahlin, originally crafted as a turbine-powered steamer yacht by the renowned builders of the Queen Mary, QEII, and the royal yacht Britannia, boasts a rich maritime history. Absent from British shores for over 70 years, Nahlin made a triumphant return in 2010, finding her home port in Glasgow after undergoing a meticulous stabilisation and archiving project (1999-2005) and a five-year classic yacht restoration effort (2005-2010). The restoration involved collaboration with firms from across the UK, Europe, and beyond, including Scottish and Merseyside engineering companies that played a pivotal role in her original 1930s construction at John Brown's.

Reflecting the classic steam yacht design, Nahlin, one of the last of its kind, preserves the essence of sailing ships. Its hull features a distinctive curved clipper bow and a counter stern, both extending gracefully beyond the waterline. The steam yacht's signature appearance, characterized by a white hull and cream funnel, commands attention wherever she sails.

Interior Design

Privately owned by inventor Sir James Dyson, the yacht Nahlin is intensely private, and no authorized interior photographs are available.

Accommodation

Nahlin offers accommodation for up to 14 guests in 7 suites. She is also capable of carrying up to 47 crew onboard to ensure a relaxed luxury yacht experience.

Performance & Capabilities

Nahlin was a turbine-powered steam yacht until 2005. Since her restoration, she is powered by new diesel-electric powertrain  MTU (16V 4000 M60) 16-cylinder 2,502hp engines running at 1800rpm, motor yacht Nahlin is capable of reaching a top speed of 18 knots.

Tenders

During the restoration process, Nahlin's original mahogany-hulled 6.4m (21ft) ship-to-shore tender, believed lost for 60 years, was discovered in Scotland. The tender has been successfully reunited with the yacht.
