Design & Construction

Designed around a full displacement steel hull and an aluminium superstructure she features a 6m beam and a 1.6m draft. The yacht has an internal volume of 110 GT (Gross Tonnes).

Exterior Design

Sirius is an 85-foot long-range expedition trawler built in Holland in 2011. The yacht features a steel hull with a thickness that varies between 7 to 10mm. Sirius has a multi-chine hull which provides increased initial stability and helps deflect spray outward, keeping the deck drier during transit. The box keel offers the versatility to handle both coastal and sheltered waters, while also having a bilge keel to allow the vessel to sit upright and level when the tide goes out.

The superstructure is constructed from aluminium, with thicknesses ranging from 4 to 6mm, and deck plates between 5 to 6mm thick. This robust construction enables the yacht to operate in challenging conditions. The transom door at the stern converts into a swim platform, providing easy access to the water. The yacht has both port and starboard access gates, facilitating smooth boarding.

The boat deck is equipped with two tenders, including a rib and a rescue sloop, and a hatch provides quick access to the cargo hold. The forward mast and spreader double as a hydraulic crane, which can be lowered to reduce air draft when navigating inland waterways.

Sirius is fitted with two 160kg dehone anchors and two chains of 18mm thickness—one 160m long and the other 120m. These are managed by a hydraulic 2150kg Danforth windlass. The yacht also includes a forward compartment that can be converted into a crew cabin, providing access to the upper deck without traversing the main areas.

In terms of safety, the boat is equipped with an EPIRB, horn, starboard and rear-facing cameras, and a Viking Rescue Pro six-person life raft.

Interior Design

The galley features a U-shaped layout, which maximizes space and accessibility. Standard appliances include a four-burner gas hob, an oven, a dishwasher, and a stainless steel sink. Storage is abundant, with numerous drawers and cabinets providing ample space for kitchenware and provisions. The 78-liter fridge, which includes a 7.5-liter freezer compartment, and an additional 40-liter fridge and freezer in the technical room, ensure sufficient storage for extended voyages. Fiddles on the worktops offer stability for cooking utensils and ingredients when the vessel is underway in rough seas.

The wheelhouse of Sirius is fitted with a suite of Simrad electronics, including multi-function displays, VHF radios, and radar systems. The helm features a traditional ship's wheel and a comprehensive array of controls and displays for navigation and vessel management. The helm's layout ensures that all necessary instruments are within easy reach of the operator, facilitating efficient and safe navigation. Overhead ventilation and side windows can be opened to provide fresh air when needed.

The saloon area provides a functional and comfortable living space. On the port side, an L-shaped seating area offers a space for dining and relaxation with views afforded by large surrounding windows. The starboard side features a more casual seating area, ideal for reading or enjoying a coffee. The saloon is equipped with a bookcase and a discreetly placed television, allowing for entertainment and leisure activities. The horizontally split Dutch door on the starboard side of the superstructure allows for easy communication with the deck and improved ventilation.

Accommodation

Sirius yacht is designed to comfortably host up to six guests across three cabins.

The owner's suite is located on the port side and features a double bed. This cabin offers ample storage space, including a hanging locker and additional storage underneath the bed. Two portholes provide natural light, and there is sufficient headroom to ensure comfort. The owner's suite shares a bathroom with the VIP cabin, which includes a shower, toilet, bidet, and his-and-her sinks. The shared bathroom design can be modified to create separate bathrooms if desired.

The VIP cabin is equally spacious and functional. It offers a double bed, plenty of headroom, and two portholes for natural light. As with the owner's suite, climate control can be individually adjusted for this cabin. Storage is available under the bed and in a hanging locker.

The third cabin features a bunk bed configuration, ideal for accommodating two adults. This cabin also includes a large porthole and individual climate control. Storage space is available beneath the bunks, and a dedicated bathroom serves this cabin, featuring a sink and a spacious shower.

An additional space is available that can be converted into a captain's cabin or used as a utility room. This area includes a washer and a porthole for natural light. Another potential crew cabin can be created in the forward compartment, accessible via the deck without passing through the main areas of the boat.

Performance & Capabilities

Sirius is powered by a single Iveco engine that delivers 360 horsepower (264.6 kilowatts). The yacht also features a secondary Iveco Homer engine that serves multiple purposes, including hydraulic power and acting as an emergency genset.

The yacht achieves a maximum speed of 10 knots, with a more economical cruising speed of 7.5 knots at 1500 rpm. At this cruising speed, Sirius consumes approximately 29 liters of fuel per hour. Remarkably, it offers a range of 5,000 nautical miles, but this can be extended by utilizing the ballast tank in the four-peak as an additional fuel tank. With modifications, the fuel capacity could be increased, potentially extending the range up to 7,000 nautical miles.

Sirius is equipped with zero-speed Mac hydraulic fins. These fins are powered directly by the main engine through a power take-off (PTO) system. This setup ensures excellent roll reduction even when the yacht is at rest in a choppy anchorage, making for a smoother and more enjoyable ride.

Sirius has a substantial fuel capacity of 13,800 liters (approximately 3,650 US gallons) stored in six tanks. With the option to add an additional 4,400 liters (around 1,160 US gallons) of fuel, the yacht's range can be significantly extended. Additionally, it features a freshwater capacity of 4,400 liters and a 140-liter per hour water maker, providing ample resources for long voyages.

The yacht's main generator is a 16 kVA Northern Lights generator with 910 running hours, complemented by an auxiliary 8.5 kVA generator powered by the secondary Iveco Homer engine. The propulsion system includes an oversized Exalto HS prop for economical cruising, and the shaft is water-lubricated. The boat is also equipped with two 400 VAC bilge pumps that double as fire pumps, enhancing safety.
