Design & Construction
Designed around a catamaran GRP hull and superstructure she features a 37'9" beam and a 7'3" draft. The yacht is built over 2 decks with an internal volume of 96 GT (Gross Tonnes).
This was the first yacht built on the 80 Sunreef Power Eco design. Launched in December 2022 this yacht undertook sea trials over the following months.
Exterior Design
With 200 square meters of solar panels seamlessly integrated into its form, the vessel's silhouette is both futuristic and functional. These panels are not just confined to the flat surfaces on top but are also ingeniously glassed into the sides of the hull, maximizing the ability to harness energy from the sun and its reflections off the water's surface.
The catamaran's twin hulls culminate at the stern in a remarkable waterline area, featuring a vast platform that serves multiple purposes. It can be lowered into the water for easy swimming access or raised to deck level, functioning as a launchpad for the tender. This space is cleverly designed to also accommodate a three-person jet ski or a trio of seabobs, showcasing the innovative use of space characteristic of Sunreef Yachts.
The cockpit area is where the sheer breadth of Sol truly comes into its own. With a near 40-foot beam, the space is expansive, allowing for a natural division between dining and lounging zones. The formal dining setup is elegantly prepared, while the sunbathing area, with adjustable backrests, transforms the space into an inviting sunpad. A daybed on the starboard side provides an idyllic spot to relax and enjoy the serene experience of gliding through the waters in near silence.
Notably, the flybridge is a crowning glory of Sol's design, where the expansive beam is once again felt, offering a vast area for relaxation and socializing. The bespoke nature of the yacht means that the layout is tailored to the owner's preferences, with a mix of fixed and freestanding furniture. The helm station is thoughtfully designed with a central seat for the skipper, flanked by companion seating, to enjoy the journey together.
Lastly, the hardtop of Sol is not just a design element but a functional powerhouse, housing the most efficient solar panels. While this means the absence of a sunroof, it underscores the yacht's dedication to sustainable energy, allowing for the harnessing of solar power to fuel the yacht's adventures.
Interior Design
The saloon onboard Sol offers a harmonious blend of social and private areas that seamlessly integrate with the yacht's cutting-edge energy system. The saloon's central feature is the sociable bar, complete with a hidden television that elegantly rises for entertainment, embodying a blend of functionality and style.
Adjacent to this focal point is a dual-purpose galley that caters to both the culinary enthusiast and social host. On one side, a fully equipped space with ample cooling storage, a sink, and generous provisions for glassware and beverages. On the other, an inviting arrangement of plush sofas and a dinette on the port side, complemented by a freestanding area that channels the ambiance of an upscale lounge. Notably, the saloon is bathed in natural light, thanks to expansive windows that offer panoramic views and create a bright, airy atmosphere.
Accommodation
Sol's interior accommodations cater to up to eight guests in a four-cabin layout, each thoughtfully designed with comfort and privacy in mind. These guest quarters are arranged to provide an intimate and restful retreat, with no detail overlooked in the quest for a serene onboard experience.
The owner's suite showcases an expansive space with ample headroom, complemented by a plethora of storage options and luxurious detailing, such as wireless phone chargers built seamlessly into the bedside tables. The grandeur of the Owner Suite is elevated with the presence of a large window, perfectly aligned with the level of the bed, offering enchanting views and bathing the suite in natural light.
The Owner Suite also boasts a sophisticated en-suite bathroom that exudes luxury. The space is finished with high-end materials, providing an opulent setting for the separate shower cubicle. Practicality is interwoven with elegance, as evidenced by the clever use of a pocket door that maximizes the interior space.
The additional guest cabins are no less impressive, each offering a plush double bed and enjoying similar levels of headroom and natural light as the Owner Suite. Each cabin features its own distinct charm, with the same immaculate attention to detail. Every guest cabin is equipped with its own climate control for personalized comfort, and they all include private en-suite bathrooms, ensuring that guests enjoy complete privacy and convenience.
The VIP cabin, situated as the most prestigious guest accommodation after the Owner Suite, offers enhanced amenities such as additional storage space and a larger bathroom, ensuring that special guests are treated to an even more indulgent stay.
Sol's commitment to the comfort of all who sail with her extends to the crew accommodations, which are designed to provide a comfortable and functional living space for the four dedicated professionals who ensure a seamless experience for guests. The crew quarters include a professional galley on the lower deck that mirrors the quality and finish of the guest areas, allowing the chef to prepare culinary delights in an environment that is both spacious and well-equipped.
Performance & Capabilities
Sol, instead of traditional engines, has a pair of powerful electric motors housed within each of its twin hulls. These motors are environmentally friendly and ensure a near-silent cruising experience, enabling guests to glide across the water with minimal noise and vibration. The absence of conventional engines is supplemented by a nearly megawatt-capacity battery bank, which provides the yacht with the necessary power for both propulsion and onboard amenities.
A standout feature of Sol is its extensive integration of solar panels, boasting an impressive 200 square meters of surface area dedicated to solar energy collection. These panels are ingeniously integrated into the yacht's design, not only on the top surfaces but also within the sides of the hull, maximizing the capture of sunlight and even harnessing reflected energy from the water's surface. This solar array plays a critical role in recharging the yacht’s batteries and sustaining its electrical systems.
The innovative energy system of Sol allows it to cruise silently at a leisurely pace of six knots for an impressive range of 100 to 150 nautical miles under peak conditions. This range is made possible by the yacht's efficient use of solar power and battery storage, offering a sailing experience that is both eco-friendly and serene. For those moments when a burst of speed is desired, Sol can reach a top speed of 14 knots, demonstrating that sustainability need not compromise performance.
