The largest Fleming, so far, the 78’s size adds a real sense of exploration to this high quality builder's trawler yacht DNA. In spite of this yacht’s size, Fleming still offers its preferred three-cabin concept but adds a separate crew quarters aft.

Buyers looking at a new Fleming 78 will find a very capable yacht that will suit both owner and crew operation as well as coastal or offshore use. Like other models, the 78 can still hit 20 knots but has that long-range capability with a 2000nm range at 10 knots. The semi-displacement hull will deliver a very smooth ride and the serious cruising culture of the 78 is backed up by an equally serious standard specification that includes full hydraulic power, twin generators, and a complete navigational system.

About

Interior

Fleming’s priority for open, easy liveaboard accommodation sees masses of floor space for the salon and cabins. The vast salon follows Fleming’s preferred style with a lounge facing on to the dining area, a large galley opening serving both. Flanked by glass, the salon is both bright and warmly inviting, finished in a choice of solid woods.

Below decks, it is rare to find a yacht of this size with only three cabins, but each one is designed to be lived in for weeks or even months at a time, with space, stowage and silence all prioritised. If located amidships, the owner’s suite can have its own private stairwell from the salon.

The size and specification of the pilothouse is befitting of such serious yacht, featuring a guest seating area, chart table, twin helm seats and an impressive console.

On deck

The flybridge takes on a real large yacht feel with a raised steering position and a lower lounge. The aft is left clear for a RIB and crane. The aft deck is fully protected with tall coamings and the flybridge overhang creating a private feel.

Forward of the wheelhouse is a deep, protected Portugues bridge, creating a small ship feel.

Performance

Like all Flemings, the 78 is RCD Category A, certified for oceangoing use. But the extra size here really makes you feel like the yacht’s capabilities can be more freely enjoyed offshore. Better still, this 75tonne yacht can still hit 20 knots for shorter port-to-port passages.

Standard power is unusual in that it delivers the most powerful option with twin MAN V12-1550hp engines, but smaller V8-1000hp and 800hp engines are available for those who do not need the extra speed.

From The Manufacturer

The initial impact of the Fleming 78 is her size. Although the extra space provided by her 90-ton displacement may be a little daunting at first, the scale and comfort of her design soon make you feel right at home. With her hugely powerful hydraulic thrusters and warping winches, this is a vessel that can be comfortably handled by just two people.

For those who prefer a captain and crew, a dedicated crew quarters in the aft of the boat is standard. This is fitted out to the same level as the VIP cabins. As on all Flemings, the salon and galley are designed with an open plan, which provides an extremely bountiful space.

Access to the accommodation can be conveniently gained two ways – via the pilothouse to a central lobby, or via the salon directly into the full beam midships master cabin.

The standard accommodation layout is full beam master midships, with port cabin twin or double and forward cabin queen or twin – all en suite. Additional berths can be added to the port and forward cabins.

There is spacious machinery space under the forward accommodation. This area provides a second technical area for equipment such as the hydraulic bow thruster, air conditioning, batteries and inverters. There is also ample space for water makers and other systems. Everything has been designed for simplicity and serviceability.
