Nauta Design has unveiled its 54m (177ft) Wide concept that the studio says distinguishes itself from other yachts in her class thanks to a wide 11m (36ft) beam and a fresh take on the traditional yacht layout.
As a result the steel and aluminium motor yacht concept has a high-volume 860GT, which compares favourably to similar sized models such as the Heesen 55m (180ft) Steel (760GT) and the 54.9m (180ft) Amels 180 (670GT).
“The basic concept behind the Nauta 54m Wide started with requests from clients who wanted plenty of room on board to accommodate a family in comfort, but not a yacht that was too big to moor in picturesque places like St Tropez or intimate bays in the Balearics,” says Mario Pedol, co-founder of Nauta Design in Milan. “So instead of focussing on length overall, we widened the beam to 11 metres and developed an innovative general arrangement.”
One of the biggest space savers is having the engine room located on the under lower-deck, freeing up a big proportion of the lower deck for other purposes, for instance, there is room for six ensuite guest cabins. There is also a 75 square meter (807 sq. ft) master suite on the main deck forward and a VIP suite to starboard opposite the galley.
When it comes to waterside relaxing the concept features a 100 square meter (1076 sq. ft) beach club area that benefits from Nauta’s patented ‘The Island’ system of folding platforms to create an uninterrupted walkway on three sides of the beach club. The concept also has a sizeable 78 square meter (839.5 sq. ft) salon and dining room with sliding glass doors on both sides.
The upper deck has cabins for both the Captain and First Officer, as well as a ship’s office behind the wheelhouse, something Nauta says is “unheard of on a 54m yacht”.
There are also plenty more spots for relaxing, including the skylounge, an open aft deck ready for al fresco dining and a 137 square meter (1474 sq. ft) sundeck with a forward hot tub and surrounding loungers.
Naval architecture for the concept is by Studio Names and the initial engineering has already been completed.
Nauta Yachts was founded in 1985 and initially acted as a yard. In 1994 they turned their focus from production into design and brokerage and have since been behind the design of some yachts, most notably the 180.65m (592.6ft) AZZAM built by Lurssen and currently the world's largest yacht on the water. It was also announced last month that it was working with Feadship on a new superyacht design concept, Project 2024.
While this is currently just a concept there are several equally impressive superyachts on the market right now. If you want to make a purchase start your search now by browsing all new and pre-owned superyachts for sale.
