Superyacht Project SAMBA: Van der Valk’s Custom 35m Explorer In-build

Designed by Guido de Groot for a large family, SAMBA focuses on performance, comfort, and safety.

Construction has begun on the latest bespoke build from Van der Valk, with the 35m (115ft) superyacht Project SAMBA scheduled for delivery in the summer of 2025.

Designed for three generations of one family, this all-aluminum tri-deck explorer yacht is being built with a high level of client involvement, in addition to a close collaboration with Guido de Groot to create a motor yacht that combines performance, comfort, and safety.

Superyacht Project Samba's aft deck showcases freestanding furniture and a warm color palette

The superyacht features an explorer-like profile with sleek lines, complex surfaces, and integrated balconies beside the wheelhouse, offering a stylish aesthetic and practical benefits. Furthermore, extensive 3D modeling has been utilized to enable the owners to see the final product, ensuring yacht SAMBA meets their standards for long-term use as a second residence.

The interior of superyacht SAMBA has been well thought out, and designed to enhance the family atmosphere onboard. The galley is spacious and equipped with air extractors to keep culinary aromas at bay, while a central staircase serves as a functional piece of art connecting all decks.

The master stateroom on the main deck includes an office and a luxurious bathroom with sliding doors for added space. Below deck, two VIP cabins and two twin suites provide ample accommodation, with three crew cabins in the bow separated by a watertight bulkhead for privacy. The captain’s quarters near the wheelhouse include an office, ensuring comfort and convenience for the entire crew.

Project Samba boasts multiple areas to relax, complete with large windows

Motor yacht SAMBA's design draws engineering inspiration from superyacht LL (ex-LADY LENE), utilizing a fast-displacement hull for superior performance. With twin MAN 1,450hp diesel engines, the explorer yacht is expected to reach a top speed of around 17 knots and a cruising speed of 14 knots.
