On Deck
The Sea Ray L590 Fly is an owner-operator sized boat with no crew cabin, ideal for family use. It has a high-low platform often used for a jet ski but could take a small rib. The aft deck features a seating area wrapped around the back of the boat with a table that folds up. A section of the seating can be removed for better access when docking. When stationary, this space becomes a relaxed, social area.
Up at the foredeck, there's a remote-controlled searchlight, anchor, and anchor winch. The deck space is tidy and functional, with good access and solid fittings.
A drawbridge setup beneath the cockpit gives direct access to the engine room, a practical feature for triple engine installations.
The boat has a cockpit enclosure option, with sliding doors that allow you to close the cockpit off completely if needed, useful for enclosing the catering area or adding a canopy.
Interior Accommodation
The L590 Fly has three-piece sliding doors leading into the saloon. The interior is spacious and cooled with air conditioning. There’s a TV, sound bar, and AV equipment neatly tucked away. Storage is generous, with space for glasses, crockery, and a wine cooler.
The galley is located midships with a hob, refrigerator, oven, dishwasher, and more storage. Finishes throughout the saloon are positioned to feel luxurious for a boat of this size.
A nice dinette area sits opposite the galley. The helm features large, comfortable seats rather than a simple bench. The multi-function displays and engine instrumentation are laid out well. Opening side windows give ventilation at the helm.
There’s a feeling of quality throughout, with thoughtful detailing that places this 18.3m (60ft) boat firmly in the luxury category.
Owner Cabin
At the bottom of the stairs sits the owner's cabin, which is slightly unusual in its layout. As you enter, there’s a lobby area with a sink, with the toilet and shower set off to the side.
Stepping down further leads into a spacious sleeping area with shelving, drawers, hanging lockers, and hull windows. The view from the hull windows is restricted at the show, but normally they would bring in lots of light.
The bed faces AV equipment neatly placed for easy viewing. A nook by the window creates a quiet space for reading or working, fitted out as a dressing table or desk. The layout feels different but well thought through.
Guest Accommodation
The VIP cabin is positioned in the bow with subtle lighting, direct deck access, wardrobes, storage spaces, and AV equipment. The cabin feels generous in size and fit-out. It has ensuite access to the day heads, which include a separate shower and designer touches throughout.
The third cabin is across the companionway and seems able to convert into a double berth with infill cushions. It has its own hanging lockers and laundry facilities tucked away neatly.
A technical switch panel and electrical distribution board are also located nearby, with drawers underneath.
Performance
The engine room lies beneath the cockpit and is accessed by sliding the deck section out of the way. The space is practical and well laid out. Fuel filters are positioned up front for easy servicing. Lighting is good, and engine access is helped by the drawbridge hatch leading down behind the engines.
The boat is powered by triple Cummins QSC 600 engines (600hp each) with Zeus pod drives. Top speed is just under 30 knots with a cruising speed of around 18 knots. Range at low speeds is over 1,000 nautical miles.
The engine room also houses the generator, batteries, SeaKeeper gyro stabiliser, and more of the boat’s electrical systems. A camera monitors the engine space from the helm.
In Summary
The Sea Ray L590 Fly feels like a practical, family-oriented owner-operator boat with a few subtle differences that make it more interesting than most. The exterior spaces are sociable and easy to use, while the interior has a surprising amount of luxury and smart detailing for a sub-18.3m boat.
The engine space is larger and more accessible than might be expected for a boat of this size and the unusual owner’s cabin layout works well in practice. The flybridge is a highlight too, with another cozy dinette, a barbecue, sink, fridge, ice maker, and a second helm station with full controls. A hardtop with an opening section covers the flybridge, and track vision domes, radar, antennas, and nav lights sit right at the top.
In all, the L590 Fly packs a lot into its size without feeling crowded. It’s a solid choice for an owner who wants something a little out of the ordinary but still easy to handle and enjoy with family and friends.
