73m Lürssen Superyacht Starfire Returns from Refit with New Design and Expanded Amenities

After a year-long transformation at Abeking & Rasmussen, the 73m superyacht Starfire has returned to the water with a striking new look and a host of modern features.

Originally delivered in 2007 by Lürssen as Saint Nicolas, the superyacht has undergone a complete reimagining, both inside and out, re-emerging in early 2025 with a fresh identity, upgraded amenities, and refined styling.

The project saw contributions from a formidable line-up of designers and naval architects. The exterior styling, originally by Espen Øino, has been boldly updated by Pascoli International, while the interiors—once the work of François Zuretti—have been entirely reshaped by Patrick Knowles. Murray & Associates played a key role in the structural redesign, most notably in the substantial stern extension and deck transformations.

A Striking New Exterior and Structural Enhancements

One of the most visible changes is the redesigned exterior paint scheme. Now finished in bold black accents that run across the radar mast, superstructure, and deck overhangs, the yacht presents a modern and purposeful profile. The dramatic contrast not only highlights the yacht’s new full-height windows but also enhances the visual impact of her redesigned exterior lines.

Structural modifications include a 3-metre stern extension, now home to a spacious swim platform that serves multiple functions. It acts as a launchpad for water toys, a waterfront sunbathing area, and a dining space capable of hosting 12 guests right at the water’s edge. It’s a significant improvement on the original layout and expands the yacht’s alfresco capabilities.

Dedicated Wellness Spaces

The sundeck has been converted into a dedicated wellness area enclosed in a retractable glass atrium. This climate-controlled retreat includes a fully equipped gym, an infrared sauna, a massage area, and a cold plunge pool.

One deck below, guests will find a 5m x 3m heated swimming pool with counter-current jets. The pool also converts into a large hot tub with a swim-up bar, rounding out the yacht’s leisure offering.

Spacious, Light-Filled Interiors by Patrick Knowles

Patrick Knowles Design has taken a fresh approach to the interior, replacing the darker, more traditional aesthetic with a lighter, airier ambiance. Mother-of-pearl inlays and bamboo details from the original design remain as nods to the yacht’s heritage, while new furnishings, materials, and layouts prioritise natural light and relaxed elegance.

Floor-to-ceiling windows on the main and upper decks create bright, open spaces and provide uninterrupted sea views throughout. Interior changes also include upgraded technical systems and reconfigured layouts to improve guest flow and privacy.

Tailored Spaces for Groups, Families, and Private Staff

Starfire now accommodates up to 12 guests in seven staterooms, with berths for up to 16 people including additional personal staff. The full-beam owner’s suite features a private observation lounge, office, dedicated gym, and a marble-clad bathroom. A generous VIP suite is located on the bridge deck with panoramic views and a private sitting area.

The lower deck offers four king-size guest cabins and one twin bunk cabin, with two of the king suites featuring Pullman berths to enhance flexibility for families or extra staff. The yacht’s elevator connects all decks, including the tank deck and pool level, ensuring seamless access throughout.

Looking Ahead: Lürssen's Anticipated Deliveries in 2025

As Starfire returns to charter in peak condition, Lürssen’s order book for 2025 signals another strong year for the German shipbuilder. Among the upcoming launches is the 134m Deep Blue, a high-volume yacht set to join the YachtBuyer YB100, which ranks the world’s biggest yachts by gross tonnage.
