About
Interior
Donald Starkey worked alongside Westport’s in-house design team on the 172’s standard interior design scheme and layout, as well as its exterior styling.
With 9.4m (31ft) of beam, there’s oodles of space inside. It’s designed for a crew of 12, captain included, and up to 12 guests including the owners.
Notable features include a huge full-beam master suite at the forward end of the main deck, a VIP suite on the top deck with its own private sundeck, a large formal dining room next to the commercial-grade galley and a garage big enough to swallow a whole fleet of tenders and water toys.
Exterior
It’s a tri-deck superyacht topped with a sundeck that has plenty of space to land a helicopter. Westport’s signature features are all here: the gracefully flared bow with chamfered upper edges, the distinctive shapes of the superstructure and through hull glazing and so on – but there’s more.
This model has a ballroom-sized aft cockpit, for starters, and unlike most other Westports it’s only partially shaded by the aft deck above. Another stand-out element of this model is its fold-down aft quarters which, when deployed, create a massive beach club area that’s open on three sides.
Performance
The 172 has a top speed of just over 21 knots and cruises at 19 knots with the standard propulsion package, which is a pair of Caterpillar 3516 diesels that deliver a combined 6,772 horsepower.
Throttle back to a long-distance passage speed of 12 knots and you have a genuine go-anywhere, trans-oceanic range of more than 5,000 nautical miles.
