Design & Construction

Designed around a displacement steel hull and an aluminium superstructure she features a 10.8m beam and a 3.5m draft. The yacht is built over 4 decks with an internal volume of 1,181 GT (Gross Tonnes).

The yacht was designed and constructed in compliance with the Lloyds Register technical standards. She was delivered to her owners in August 2015.

Exterior Design

This exceptional yacht boasts a distinctive bluff-bowed structure, a feature that is as much a hallmark of Benetti's design language as it is a nod to the owner's personal taste. Inspired by the yacht Natori, Soundwave's exterior presents a pronounced, vertical bow that not only commands attention but also offers practical benefits at sea.

This innovative bow design is not merely aesthetic; it also contributes to the yacht's efficiency. The pronounced bow provides a significant spray rail that runs aft, effectively keeping the decks dry by mitigating water splash—a common issue with upright stems that lack flare.

Soundwave's decks gracefully rise behind her long, sleek nose, further accentuated by a dynamic curvature that leads the eye along her elegant lines. A thoughtful addition to her design is the significant volume forward, which provides ample space for a large bosun's locker and mooring area on the main deck, ensuring that practical considerations are met without compromising on aesthetics.

The sundeck, expertly reimagined and restructured at the behest of the owner, is the yacht's crowning leisure area. It boasts a pool positioned aft, surrounded by inviting sunpads, creating an oasis of relaxation. This area is complemented by comfortable seating, an Italian stone-clad bar, a cozy seating area, and a small kitchen—a perfect setup for family gatherings and social events.

Soundwave has been meticulously crafted to deliver a multisensory experience. It is a yacht that not only looks stunning from afar but also invites closer inspection and appreciation of the finer details that make her a masterpiece.

Interior Design

The interior design of Soundwave is a testimony to transformation and tailored elegance, a narrative of a space that transcends from its original vision into a personalized family sanctuary. The yacht's interior, a product of the owner's company's vision, is a harmonious blend of Art Deco influence and contemporary sensibilities, achieving a monochrome masterpiece that evokes a sense of home upon the waves.

Where the initial design was heavy and classical, the new vision for Soundwave required a 'de-wooding' process, lightening up the space with a blend of dark, patinated wall paneling and lighter colors. This juxtaposition creates a Deco-light interior that resonates with the owner's taste and home in Los Angeles, which also features Art Deco styling.

Artwork plays a pivotal role in bringing the interior spaces to life, with interactive butterfly displays by Dominic Harris in the main saloon offering a dynamic element that captures the imagination. These pieces are complemented by strategic placements of works by Tracey Emin, Hans Kotter, Helmut Newton, and David Yarrow, each adding to the eclectic yet cohesive aesthetic that defines Soundwave.

The main living spaces epitomize comfort and functionality, designed with family in mind. Soft curves replace sharp edges, particularly at toddler height, and seating is arranged to foster intimacy and relaxation. Coffee tables around which the seating is clustered are designed for resilience and comfort, suitable for children's play or for guests to unwind with ease.

The owner's suite is a panoramic marvel on the upper deck, featuring a forward-facing spa pool that offers privacy and unparalleled views without compromising on the safety and comfort of the family. This preference for outside space is echoed in the VIP suite on the main deck, which boasts a generous layout and large portrait windows, ensuring guests experience the grandeur of Soundwave's design.

The guest accommodations, dressed in the same Art Deco style, feature Italian marble and Lalique taps in the en suites, indicative of the meticulous attention to detail that characterizes the yacht's redesign. Each space within Soundwave has been crafted to engage the senses, creating a 'polycentric experience' where sight, sound, touch, and emotion converge for a memorable experience.

Accommodation

Soundwave graciously accommodates her guests across a selection of sumptuous cabins, each appointed to provide an experience of unrivaled comfort and style. The yacht is capable of hosting a total of twelve guests, ensuring an intimate and personalized journey across the seas.

The panoramic owner's suite on the upper deck is a testament to the yacht's dedication to luxury, featuring a private spa pool and offering breathtaking views. This suite is a masterful creation that marries space, light, and grandeur, providing the owners with a serene retreat from the world.

The VIP suite on the main deck is a marvel of maritime accommodation. With its extensive breadth covering the full 8 meters of the yacht's beam, the suite includes a private study, a walk-in dressing room, and six grand portrait windows that bring the outside in, all furnished in the yacht's signature Art Deco style.

On the lower deck, guests can find their solace in two twin cabins and two double cabins, accessible from a central lobby that exudes sophistication and style. Each cabin is adorned with the same Art Deco elegance found throughout Soundwave, featuring Italian marble en suites meticulously selected by the owner's design team and finished with Lalique taps. The cabins are not just rooms; they are individual sanctuaries where guests can relax in comfort and privacy.

Soundwave ensures that her crew of 16 professionals are provided with ample and well-designed quarters, which speak to the yacht's commitment to excellence for all on board. The crew's living spaces are crafted to offer both comfort and functionality, enabling them to maintain the highest standards of service for guests while enjoying their own dedicated accommodations.

Performance & Capabilities

At the heart of Soundwave’s performance are twin diesel Caterpillar (3512C) 1,810hp engines that propel her through the seas with grace and power. These engines are finely tuned to offer optimal efficiency and performance, allowing Soundwave to achieve a comfortable cruising speed of 15 knots. Under favorable conditions, her captain reports the yacht can reach a top speed of 17.5 knots, a testament to the engineering prowess embedded within her hull.

The efficiency of Soundwave’s hull design is highlighted by the engine loading, which stands at a mere 65 percent at cruising speed. This not only indicates that the yacht operates well within her mechanical capabilities, ensuring longevity and reliability but also suggests that there is additional power reserve for situations that demand increased performance.

With her 120,000 litre fuel tanks she has a maximum range of 5,000 nautical miles at 16 knots. With a hull designed for efficiency and engines that balance power with fuel economy, Soundwave is built for long passages, offering her owner the freedom to explore the far reaches of the globe in comfort and style.

Ensuring a smooth journey, Soundwave is equipped to handle the demands of the sea while maintaining the utmost comfort for her guests. The report from the captain regarding her buoyant ride over two-meter swells is a clear indication of a well-designed hull that performs admirably even in challenging conditions.

Throughout, the yacht's design philosophy has been to prioritize functionality without sacrificing beauty. It is a testament to the successful collaboration between the owners and the design team in bringing a vision to life that is both practical for a family and aesthetically compelling.

Amenities

A gym with all the latest equipment allows her guests to keep their workout routines while at sea. In addition, a swim platform provides easy access to the ocean. The yacht features a tender garage with storage for a range of toys and accessories. Air conditioning offers increased on-board comfort and underwater lights will turn plenty of heads when the sun goes down. Soundwave also features a deck jacuzzi for cooling off.
