Design & Construction
Designed around a displacement steel hull and an aluminium superstructure she features a 13.9m beam and a 4.1m draft. The yacht is built over 5 decks with an internal volume of 2,463 GT (Gross Tonnes).
The yacht was designed and constructed in compliance with the Lloyds Register technical standards. She was delivered to her owners in July 2011.
Exterior Design
Exemplifying a perfect balance between timeless elegance and modern design, the exterior of Musashi is a sight to behold. The yacht boasts a sleek profile and a streamlined silhouette, providing an imposing yet tasteful presence on the water.
From a distance, the first thing that captures the eye about Musashi is its low profile. This was a design choice made by the owner who wanted a modern-looking boat that was not unnecessarily tall. This lower profile does not compromise the yacht's grandeur but rather, enhances its sophisticated appeal.
The exterior of Musashi is characterized by large windows with unobstructed views. This design was made possible by advancements in window glass technology and installation techniques, resulting in a seamless integration of the yacht’s interior with the surrounding seascape. These windows not only allow an abundance of natural light to flood the living spaces but also provide breathtaking panoramic views of the ocean.
The yacht's exterior design is further punctuated by its slender hull and 'tumblehome' decks. The hull's length-to-beam ratio is more like a sailboat than most superyachts launched today. This, coupled with the bulbous bow that tapers far out in front of the cutwater, allows for an even finer entrance angle without reducing buoyancy forward. This efficient hull design ensures both a top speed in excess of 20 knots and an 8,000 nautical miles range at delivery speed.
Another unique aspect of Musashi's exterior is the placement of two 11.6-metre Vaudrey Miller tenders on the aft main deck. This unconventional design choice allows the aft main deck to become a giant play deck complete with a basketball court when the tenders are launched. The basketball hoop is another custom feature that adds a fun and playful element to this luxurious yacht.
The top deck is an open-air paradise offering guests the chance to soak up some sun, cool off in the spa pool or enjoy a drink at the bar. The clean design of the top deck, with its invigorating pool, invites guests to enjoy the open air and the sun.
Interior Design
Delving into the interior design of Musashi, it's clear that every detail has been meticulously crafted to ensure a luxurious and serene experience for its guests. The yacht is a meeting point of Zen-like minimalism and hints of art deco, resulting in an aesthetic that is both calming and opulent.
The main deck saloon, one of Musashi's primary social spaces, boasts a clean, casual design. Silk carpets adorn teak decking, and fabrics of chenille and cashmere give the lounge a soft tactility. By day, this space is perfect for lounging and relaxation, but by night, the comfortable day beds transform into luxurious cinema seats, thanks to a concealed 6.1-metre-wide screen in the deckhead.
A beautifully finished hall runs nearly the length of the deck, curving around the lift and staircase. The guest suites are stunning, both in size and due to the full-length windows in the bedrooms and en suites, which offer breathtaking views.
The upper deck features another saloon with a dining area. The forward half of this deck is dedicated to the larger of the yacht's two master suites, offering ample space and privacy. The second master is located aft on the bridge deck, maintaining the balance and symmetry of the yacht's design.
The spa area is a masterstroke in design - clean lines and backlit wavy, curved glass create a sense of harmony and tranquility, facilitating relaxation.
The central glass lift is another key feature, enveloped by a stainless steel and glass staircase that climbs through every deck. The stair treads are made from three layers of glass on a stainless steel backbone, the top layer sandblasted to offer good grip underfoot.
Accommodation
Accommodating up to 20 guests, the luxury yacht Musashi is designed with an emphasis on spaciousness and comfort. The yacht boasts ten suites, each designed with full-length windows in both the bedrooms and en suites, allowing guests to enjoy the breathtaking views of the ocean while relishing the comfort of their private spaces. The guest accommodation is primarily located on the main deck, which also houses the captain's cabin.
A unique feature of Musashi is the existence of two master suites. The larger suite is located on the upper deck, offering a luxurious space with panoramic views. The second master suite is located aft on the bridge deck, providing an equally luxurious but distinct ambiance. Both suites have large beds, comfortable seating areas, and spacious bathrooms finished in Jerusalem Gold marble, Makassar ebony, and anigre.
Musashi can also accommodate a crew of 24, ensuring that the needs of every guest on board are well catered to. The lower deck is predominantly devoted to crew areas and technical spaces, ensuring smooth operations without intruding on the guest areas of the yacht.
Performance & Capabilities
Bearing a remarkable resemblance to a samurai sword in its sleek and streamlined profile, the Musashi owes its distinctive design to the technical advancements in window glass installation. This design element not only makes for a visually stunning exterior but also allows for unobstructed views from the interior. The large windows, particularly the curved panels, are a testament to the years of engineering exploration and innovation at Feadship.
The Musashi's impressive performance is powered by its efficient hull, designed with a bulbous bow. This unique design enables a finer entrance angle without reducing buoyancy forward, thus optimizing the yacht's speed and efficiency. As a result, the Musashi boasts a top speed in excess of 20 knots and a delivery speed range of 8,000 nautical miles.
The yacht's propulsion system was initially planned to include four engines driving two shafts, a design aimed at reducing vibration. However, to maintain engine output under 9,000 kilowatts and still meet the owner's speed requirements, the design was revised to include a bulbous bow, retracting fin stabilizers, and a retracting stern thruster. These modifications, along with the optimization of the hull lines to prevent aft body slamming, contribute to the Musashi's exceptional performance and stability.
To further enhance stability, the yacht features a 'tumblehome' design where each deck is stepped inside the other. This design reduces the weight of the higher decks and contributes to the yacht's slender look. The low center of gravity, achieved by the steel hull, amidships engine room, and the central conduit and venting trunk, also add to the yacht's stability.
Amenities
The yacht features a well-equipped gym, allowing her guests to keep up their fitness regimes at sea. For the ultimate relaxation experience, the yacht plays host to a luxury spa. A sumptuous cinema suite allows for movie nights at sea while a swim platform is on hand for guests looking to cool off in the sea. An elevator makes the yacht fully-accessible, while air conditioning offers increased on-board comfort.
