Winch Design

Helmed by Andrew Winch, British-based Winch Design is known for its sharp and contemporary aesthetics that eschews a traditional house style so that each custom-designed superyacht is fresh, unique and innovative.

Founder Andrew Winch started as an apprentice for renowned superyacht designer Jon Bannenberg, building on his background in sculpting and 3D design. He established his own studio in 1986, and Winch Design now employs around 100 people at their headquarters on the River Thames. The studio has since won multiple awards and worldwide recognition for its cutting-edge approach to design.

Winch Design is currently headed up by Jim Dixon, who has been with the company for over 20 years. As well as motor yachts, sailing vessels, and superyacht tenders, the studio also designs private jets and land-based architecture.

Winch Design is now an industry-leader in the interior and exterior design of superyachts, with an impressive portfolio which includes multiple yachts measuring over 100m. The studio shines when it comes to larger Custom builds, and is responsible for some notable yachts including  Lurssen’s 156m (511’) DILBAR - the largest yacht in the world by gross tonnage,  and the multi-award-winning 80m (262’) Abeking & Rasmussen EXCELLENCE, a yacht defined by her astonishing volume of external glass. The studio is also credited with the timeless and distinctive appearance of Lurssen’s 85m (279’) superyacht ACE , with her large black windows, sweeping lines, and the contrast of a cream-colored hull and white superstructure.

Each Winch- designed superyacht is imbued with the company ethos for perfect proportions and refreshing spaces which are balanced, beautiful and uplifting. All of the studio’s projects are given the same attention to detail, which has cemented Winch’s reputation for high-calibre yacht design.
