Design & Construction

Designed around a full displacement aluminium hull and superstructure she features a 37'10" beam and a 12'6" draft. The yacht has an internal volume of 499 GT (Gross Tonnes).

Construction started in late 2006. This was the seventh yacht built in the series. Launched in April 2009 this yacht undertook sea trials over the following months. She was delivered to her owners in July 2009.

Exterior Design

The exterior design of Asahi features a striking black hull, complemented by a white superstructure. The boot top follows the same white color scheme, creating a clean and cohesive visual appeal. The hull is finished with Alexseal, known for its durability and high-quality appearance. The antifoul color is black, providing both functional and aesthetic benefits. This combination of colors and finishes ensures Asahi stands out on the water while maintaining a professional and refined look.

The sun deck is a versatile space, well-suited for outdoor dining and leisure activities. It includes three L-shaped sofas positioned around a central area, with a barbecue and bar integrated into the design. The spa pool and sunbathing mattresses are easily accessible, enhancing the usability of the space without disrupting movement around the deck. The deck layout is carefully considered, balancing dimensions and positioning to improve upon earlier designs.

The aft main deck includes a designated sunbathing area, while the portside shell door in the hull offers direct access to the sea. This practical feature ensures ease of use for water activities and enhances the overall functionality of the yacht.

The deckhouse on Asahi is slightly smaller compared to some of its sister ships, but it retains a practical and user-friendly layout. The cockpit furniture is designed with a focus on durability and style, incorporating materials such as teak, stainless steel, and carbon fiber. The dining table, director's chairs, and coffee table are all crafted to high standards, ensuring longevity and ease of maintenance.

Interior Design

The main saloon is a central feature of Asahi's interior. It spans eight meters in width and 13 meters in length, offering a spacious area for relaxation and socializing. The room is illuminated by natural light streaming through six large windows on either side. The color palette is understated, featuring closely matched tones and accented by strategic lighting that highlights the clean lines of the floor and ceiling. The design employs a mix of glossy, dark macassar ebony, bleached spruce cupboard doors, and bleached teak flooring.

In terms of amenities, the saloon includes an elegant bar located at the forward end, a seating area, and a central coffee table. This table is notable for its intricate construction: it has horizontal doors that open to reveal serving trays, with a center section edged in polished stainless steel. The seating area is complemented by a white woven-leather carpet, contributing to the room's overall sense of refined simplicity.

Adjacent to the saloon, the dining area features a formal dining table made of ebony and trimmed with stainless steel. The table's surface can be extended with leaves, and it includes inserts that form a shimmering half-moon shape. The custom dinner service, sourced by Tessier's wife Carole, includes hand-thrown plates with a rough blackish glaze, and the cutlery is made from black-finished titanium using a newly developed process.

The main staircase, a focal point of the interior, is designed with teak treads and an ebony and stainless steel handrail. It provides access to both the sun deck and the lower deck, where additional guest cabins are located. The staircase is designed to offer a visually pleasing experience, with perfect form and finish.

Throughout Asahi, the attention to detail is evident in the choice of materials and the execution of design elements. For example, a cupboard in the saloon, positioned beside the wine cooler, is designated for cocktail glasses and features a lighting concept that enhances its visual appeal. Spotlights set in the top shine downward, creating a beautiful effect as light passes through blue glasses and onto the cocktail glasses below.

Art also plays a role in the interior design, with pieces like "Offering" by Swiss artist Yves Dana adding a contemplative touch. This sculpture, made of black basalt and supported by stainless steel pillars, is both functional and artistic.

Accommodation

Asahi can host a total of 12 guests in six well-appointed cabins. The master suite, located aft, features a bedroom to starboard of a centrally positioned dressing room. The suite includes a sofa and a vast mirror that conceals a television, visible only when turned on. This thoughtful design maximizes space while offering a private and serene retreat for the owner.

In addition to the master suite, Asahi boasts two large double cabins, two twin cabins, and a twin-bunked cabin ideal for children. Each of these cabins shares the sophisticated and meticulously detailed decorative scheme that characterizes the entire yacht. The double cabins are equipped with a writing desk that can be stowed to save space, a mirror, and compartments for make-up, adding a touch of convenience and luxury. The twin cabins and the double-bunked cabin each provide a large shower room with a 'monsoon' shower rose, ensuring a comfortable and refreshing experience for all guests.

She is also capable of carrying up to 10 crew onboard to ensure a relaxed luxury yacht experience.
