Delivered in 1985, Explora is a 46.63m motor yacht built by Dutch shipyard Feadship. Her naval architecture and exterior design comes from the drawing boards of De Voogt, while Pembrooke & Ives is responsible for her interior design.

Key Features

  • Sundeck with bar and hot tub
  • Range: 4,320 nautical miles at 9 knots
  • Spacious, full-beam master stateroom
  • Alfresco dining options

Design & Construction

Designed around a displacement steel hull and an aluminium superstructure she features a 8.48m beam and a 2.74m draft. The yacht is built over 3 decks with an internal volume of 419 GT (Gross Tonnes).

The yacht was designed and constructed in compliance with the Lloyds Register technical standards.

Exterior Design

The sundeck serves as a central leisure hub, equipped with a hot tub and bar, integrated cleverly with the main engine exhaust structure. This design choice not only optimizes space but also reduces noise, enhancing guest comfort.

Storage is ample, with inconspicuous compartments built into the superstructure, ensuring that the outdoor areas remain uncluttered. The sundeck is also home to a substantial barbecue grill, allowing for alfresco dining experiences adjacent to the seating areas, which can be transformed into a single large table for communal gatherings.

Below, the bridge deck extends the outdoor living space, with tenders and personal watercraft housed here when not in use. When the water toys are deployed, the area transforms into an expansive deck suitable for events or relaxation, complete with sunbeds and a personal gym setup. The bridge deck also features a sun awning for shaded comfort.

The quality of the exterior finish, such as teak capping rails, is evident throughout the yacht. The design also incorporates practical elements like wing stations for navigational ease and a Portuguese bridge leading to the foredeck, which hosts additional seating and anchoring equipment.

The main deck aft offers a refined outdoor setting with wind protection panels for comfort in various weather conditions. The exposed frame of the hull is a distinctive Feadship feature, emphasizing the vessel's robust construction without compromising aesthetics.

Navigating the side decks, guests can access the main salon through doors conveniently positioned for an elegant entry experience.

Explora prioritizes functionality and remains true to a refined, yet understated aesthetic.

Interior Design

Explora's interior adopts a Hamptons Beach Club style that favors clean lines and a light color palette. Incorporating white wooden panels and natural leathers, the design creates an inviting and comfortable environment. The interior spaces are marked by an efficient use of space, avoiding clutter while maintaining functionality and aesthetic appeal.

Materials used throughout the yacht include mahogany wood, which is evident in the form of elegant cabinetry and detailing, complemented by stainless steel accents that provide a contemporary touch. The combination of materials contributes to the cohesive and polished look of the interior.

The dining areas on Explora are thoughtfully arranged. The main deck houses a formal dining space, marked by a mahogany dining table flanked by two matching credenzas, providing ample storage for dining essentials. This space is adjacent to the galley, allowing for efficient service.

The galley itself is sizable and practical, finished in stainless steel and equipped with professional-grade appliances, ample countertop space, and comprehensive storage solutions. This area is designed to facilitate the preparation of high-quality meals, reflecting the standards expected in a commercial kitchen.

The helm is equipped with an array of navigational tools and multiple steering options, including two autopilots—a notable feature for a yacht of this size. Steering can be managed via a tiller arm or a joystick, depending on the captain's preference. The helm also houses emergency steering controls.

Accommodation

Explora is configured to welcome up to 12 guests, offering them an upscale, refined retreat across its six well-appointed suites.

The owner's suite, occupying a full-beam section of the yacht, affords expansive living space, complete with a study area, ample wardrobe storage, and an inviting main bedroom area. The en suite facilities include a generous bathroom, complete with a full-size bathtub, large shower, and elegant vanity area.

In addition to the owner's suite, Explora includes a VIP cabin that is both spacious and well-equipped, featuring a work area, ample wardrobe space, and an en suite bathroom that serves as a sound barrier from the engine room.

The guest quarters are not limited to the VIP cabin; Explora also offers two double cabins, each with their own unique charm and equally luxurious en suite bathrooms. The yacht further accommodates guests with two twin cabins, which are ideal for individuals or children, also featuring their own private bathrooms for convenience and comfort.

The crew quarters, located below deck at the bow, consist of four en suite cabins, which are part of the total provision for up to 11 crew members in six cabins. This thoughtful layout ensures that the crew has their own dedicated spaces, contributing to the smooth and professional operation of the yacht.

Performance & Capabilities

Explora is powered by Detroit Diesel engines, each offering 675 horsepower. This robust powerplant enables Explora to achieve a maximum speed of 12.5 knots. When cruising at this top speed, she boasts a remarkable range of approximately 2,500 nautical miles, demonstrating her capability for extended voyages.

For those who prioritize efficiency and longevity of travel, reducing the speed to 9 knots extends Explora's range to an impressive 4,320 nautical miles.

Explorer has been retrofitted with state-of-the-art technology to enhance her performance and comfort. The addition of zero-speed stabilizers in 2008 marked a significant upgrade, ensuring stability and tranquility on board, even when stationary in turbulent waters.

A noteworthy feature of Explora is the Spot Zero water purification system. Initially, the yacht's water maker employs reverse osmosis to remove the salinity from seawater, making it suitable for daily use. The Spot Zero system then further refines this water by extracting minerals and calcium, preventing unsightly residue from marring the yacht's finish upon drying. Additionally, it reintroduces essential minerals back into the water supply, providing guests with pristine and palatable drinking water straight from the tap.

Amenities

The yacht features a well-equipped gym, allowing her guests to keep up their fitness regimes at sea. Air conditioning offers increased on-board comfort. Explora also features a deck jacuzzi for cooling off.
