Delivered in 2009, Hanuman is a multi-award winning 42.1m sail yacht built by Dutch shipyard Royal Huisman. The yacht's refined interiors have been crafted by Pieter Beeldsnijder Design, while her exteriors have been penned by Charles E. Nicholson.

Key Features

  • All-carbon 'grand prix' rig
  • Replica of 1937 America's Cup yacht
  • Luxurious interior with French walnut paneling
  • Teak-clad carbon-composite deckhouse

Design & Construction

Designed around an aluminium hull and superstructure she features a 6.6m beam and a 4.7m draft. The yacht has an internal volume of 183 GT (Gross Tonnes).

The yacht was designed and constructed in compliance with the Lloyds Register technical standards.

Exterior Design

Hanuman's exterior design is a remarkable blend of classic elegance and contemporary performance, crafted to embody the spirit of the original 'Super J'-Class yachts while harnessing the advancements of modern technology. The sleek, black Alustar alloy hull is a visual statement of power and grace, perfectly complemented by the 90-tonne lead keel that promises stability and superior sailing capabilities.

The yacht's profile is accentuated by the majestic all-carbon 'grand prix' rig, constructed by Royal Huisman's sister company Rondal, which not only enhances Hanuman's performance but also contributes to her striking silhouette. The teak-clad carbon-composite deckhouse rests upon the expansive decks, which are intentionally kept wide and free of obstructions, encapsulating the minimalist ethos of a classic racing yacht and ensuring unimpeded movement for crew and guests alike.

Aloft, the rig and sail plan are the result of a collaborative effort between Rondal, the Carew Group, and North Sails, who utilized advanced technology and precise scientific optimization to push the boundaries of performance. The rig incorporates a highly advanced carbon-fiber mast with localized lamination, engineered to control mast bend and sail shape across diverse sailing conditions. The result is a yacht that performs impressively in breezes ranging from 10 to 25 knots.

When under sail, Hanuman black hull & gold cove stripe, crowned with the bleached teak deck, cuts through the water with relentless determination. The deckhouse offers a sanctuary from the weather, with sufficient space to comfortably accommodate four guests on two traditional inward-facing sofas.

Hanuman has been made to deliver an unrivaled sailing experience, combining the elegance of yesteryear with today's cutting-edge technology.

Interior Design

The interior, masterfully designed by Pieter Beeldsnijder, evokes an atmosphere of timeless luxury and craftsmanship. Royal Huisman's skilled carpenters have shaped the French walnut panels that line the walls, creating a warm and inviting ambiance that is further accentuated by the elaborate detailing and the rich, tactile finish achieved through a 14-step polishing process by the specialists at Acanthus International.

The commitment to authenticity and old-world charm is evident in the artisan-built finish, where traditional techniques from nearly two centuries ago are employed. The bleaching, coloring, French polishing, color distressing, and the application of a light patina, all converge to enhance the grain of the walnut.

The overhead deck beams and gracefully curved paneling echo the yacht's exterior lines. Complementing the hand-crafted walnut are tastefully chosen cream, tan, and neutral fabrics, sometimes accented with blue, burl wood tabletops, and soft, muted lighting, which together foster a serene atmosphere of period charm and understated sophistication.

Accommodation

Guests aboard Hanuman are afforded a truly exclusive experience, with the yacht accommodating a select number of six guests in three lavishly appointed cabins.

The full-beam master suite is the crown jewel of guest accommodations, featuring a bed that is cantilevered to maximize the space within the yacht. Flanked by a carved walnut seating area and a sideboard topped with exquisite walnut burl, the master cabin is an intimate retreat that exudes a sense of grandeur and comfort.

The two additional guest cabins are intimate sanctuaries, each appointed with French walnut paneling, off-white deckheads, and antique mirrors that create an ambiance of serene sophistication. These quiet cocoons invite guests to unwind in an atmosphere that harmoniously blends modern luxury with the charm of a bygone era.

The crew accommodations are equally well-considered, housing a complement of up to eight dedicated professionals. Situated forward of the saloon, the crew area features two twin-bunked cabins to port and starboard, as well as double-bunked beds forward. Each space is thoughtfully laid out to provide crew members with equal storage and a comfortable living environment, finished with cream-colored paneling and stainless hardware that amplify the natural light.

Performance & Capabilities

While Hanuman's sail power is undeniably impressive, her mechanical systems are equally commendable. The engine room is a well designed space that runs the length of nearly 15 meters of her 27.4-meter waterline. The engine room houses a state-of-the-art propulsion system, 1 x diesel Scania (DI 12 59M) 350hp engines, with which Hanuman is capable of reaching a top speed of 13 knots, and comfortably cruising at 10 knots. With her 8,240 litre fuel tanks, the engines have a maximum range of 1,900 nautical miles at 10 knots.

Hanuman is equipped with a modern VSAT communications system, ensuring that all onboard systems remain connected and operational, even in the vast expanse of the open sea. This level of connectivity also extends to the entertainment system, which is zoned throughout the yacht for seamless access to multimedia content, controlled via an iTouch interface connected to a central server.

The helmstation features a traditional pedestal-mounted wheel, complemented by a 21-inch LED touchscreen that provides clear visibility even under the glare of the sun. This screen serves as a central hub for monitoring and controlling the yacht's mechanical systems, including the engine, generators, and hydraulics, thus ensuring that the captain and crew can efficiently manage the vessel's operations.

Hanuman represents the pinnacle of sailing excellence, a yacht where tradition and innovation converge to create a vessel that is not only a sight to behold but also a force to be reckoned with on the open seas.
