The SUV (Sports Utility Vessel) market is growing rapidly, with more brands, including the big players, cottoning on to the massive benefits this yacht design delivers. And of course, everything is fuelled by buyers, who arguably cottoned on faster.
Buyers of new SUVs can expect a near-unbeatable mix of practicality, space and luxury, with performance generally split between fast cruising semi-displacement and long-range full-displacement.
Designs include tall powerful bows and superstructures, often with flybridges or upper decks, that come dressed in glass for superb views out. The unapologetic SUV design of angles and height delivers large interiors, with excellent headroom and volume.
SUVs have tended to be built by smaller yards, in smaller numbers, when compared to flybridge yachts - the obvious cruising rival. This tends to mean that SUVs are more expensive than other contemporary yachts but do offer a greater level of personalisation and detail.
