Design & Construction

Designed around a displacement steel hull and an aluminium superstructure she features a 8.6m beam and a 2.6m draft. The yacht is built over 3 decks with an internal volume of 499 GT (Gross Tonnes).

Launched in January 2022 this yacht undertook sea trials over the following months.

Exterior Design

Acala's silhouette bears the hallmarks of a vessel designed for adventure with a gently raked bow, yet foregoes the more obvious rugged features often associated with expedition yachts. Instead, her elegance is understated, allowing her to glide into any sophisticated marina without appearing out of place while still being fully equipped for the farthest reaches of the globe.

One of the most captivating elements of Acala's exterior is the expansive cabin windows on the main deck. These windows feature upper mullions that are nearly imperceptible from the outside, creating an illusion of seamless glass that merges the interior with the oceanic surroundings. These generous apertures are not only aesthetically striking but also serve to bring the outside in, providing guests with unobstructed views of the sea and coastline, transforming the interior spaces into panoramic viewing galleries.

The yacht's generous beam of 8.6 metres, complemented by a minimum deck height of 2.2 metres, grants her an impressive presence on the water. Despite this, Bozzo has achieved a balanced exterior profile that speaks to the yacht’s dual nature: robust enough for long-range expeditions yet refined in its execution.

Another example of Acala's sophisticated design can be found in the upper saloon and sundeck areas. The upper saloon, a hub of activity and relaxation, seamlessly connects to the aft deck through full-height doors, enhancing the sense of space and openness. The sundeck itself is a testament to the owner's vision, a scaled-down version of the sundeck found on their larger Lürssen, featuring a spa pool, dining area, bar, and sliding glass windbreakers, all harmoniously integrated to create an inviting outdoor retreat.

The yacht's well-considered detailing extends to the practical features that underline its explorer credentials. The robust, CNC-machined aluminum doors of the storage lockers on the main aft deck, complete with heavy-duty seals, and the sturdy cabin doors weighing 44 kilograms each, fitted with pistons and quadruple hinges, are engineered to withstand the rigors of the open sea and the test of time.

Interior Design

Embracing a philosophy that prioritizes function and understated elegance, the interior of Acala is a testament to the refined vision of both her owner and the creative prowess of Mexican designer Simón Hamui. Hamui, known for his work on luxurious residences and prestigious yachts, has imparted Acala with a serene and natural ambiance that resonates throughout her interior spaces.

The use of natural materials is a defining feature of Acala's interior design. Aged ash for cabinetry, wire-brushed oak for wall paneling, and textured ash for flooring create a harmonious blend that not only pleases the eye but also appeals to one's sense of touch. The aged eucalyptus cabinetry within the master suite and the grey sucupira wood found in the guest cabins further contribute to the organic feel of the yacht's living spaces.

Hamui's commitment to creating an enveloping atmosphere is evident in the incorporation of a unique felt substitute material, accented with wooden strips, that lines the overheads. This innovative choice not only adds a cocoon-like quality to the spaces but also serves an acoustic function, ensuring that the ambiance within Acala remains tranquil and quiet—a detail that enhances the overall sensory experience on board.

Furniture throughout the yacht is custom-designed by Hamui's studio and is meticulously crafted in Mexico or Italy. These bespoke pieces feature soft cashmere upholstery, hand-woven alpaca rugs, and leather inserts in a palette of subtle nuances such as beige, orange, grey, and powder blue. The intentional rounding of corners, the preference for matte finishes, and the use of indirect lighting all converge to create an atmosphere that is both soothing and sophisticated.

Accommodation

Acala boasts generous accommodation for up to twelve guests, housed within six elegantly appointed cabins. Each cabin is a haven of tranquility, featuring a harmonious blend of natural materials and bespoke design elements, ensuring guests are immersed in an atmosphere of understated elegance throughout their stay.

At the heart of the guest quarters is the master suite, an embodiment of tasteful luxury. The master suite, located on the main deck, reflects the yacht's ethos of refined simplicity. It offers an intimate space with a walk-in wardrobe/bathroom, ensuring the owner's utmost comfort. The suite's design utilizes a palette of soft leathers and aged eucalyptus wood, creating a serene environment that invites relaxation.

Complementing the master suite are three additional guest cabins on the main deck, each one crafted to mirror the master's aesthetic with subtle distinctions. These cabins are sanctuaries of calm, with bespoke cabinetry and finishes that evoke a sense of warmth and coziness. Two more guest cabins on the deck below complete the guest accommodations, all fashioned with the same attention to detail and comfort.

The yacht's interior design, led by Simon Hamui, seamlessly integrates natural woods and soft leathers, crafting a soothing environment that is as beautiful as it is comfortable. Custom-designed furniture, hand-woven textiles, and indirect lighting contribute to the overall ambiance, making Acala a true sanctuary at sea.

Crew accommodations have not been overlooked in the design of Acala. Recognizing the importance of a well-rested and contented crew to the overall guest experience, Acala features expansive crew quarters that include a large crew mess and sizeable cabins. Located on the lower deck, the crew spaces are designed to offer a crew of up to 6 the same level of quality and comfort that guests enjoy. A large galley equipped with modern amenities ensures that the crew can provide exceptional service, while pantries on the main and upper decks, as well as a dumbwaiter that reaches the sundeck, underscore the thoughtful consideration given to the yacht's operational flow.

Performance & Capabilities

Acala is at the pinnacle of nautical engineering, boasting an impressive powertrain that ensures both robustness and efficiency. Powered by a pair of twin diesel Caterpillar (C32) 1,014hp engines running at 2100rpm, Acala is capable of achieving a top speed of 14 knots and a comfortable cruising speed at 12 knots that allows her guests to glide through the waves with ease. The yacht's engines have been meticulously selected and installed to provide a harmonious blend of performance and reliability, ensuring that Acala can navigate the most challenging sea conditions with confidence.

Acala's true prowess lies in her remarkable range, which stands at a formidable 8,000 nautical miles when cruising at 9.5 knots. This extensive range is a testament to the yacht's exceptional fuel efficiency and the engineering acumen of Cantiere delle Marche. It affirms Acala's status as a genuine explorer yacht, designed to embark on long voyages to the most secluded and exotic destinations without the need for frequent refueling stops.

Below the engine room, a full-height tunnel runs the length of the hull, a remarkable feature that serves multiple purposes. This tunnel grants the crew simple access to essential components such as stabilizers and piping, which is crucial for the smooth operation of the yacht. Additionally, it doubles as a storage space for luggage, showcasing the yacht's thoughtful utilization of space.
