68m luxury support catamaran WAYFINDER delivered

The 68.2m (223.7ft) support yacht WAYFINDER can accommodate 18 crew members and is home to a helipad and hangar and plenty of tender storage.

Spanish yard Astilleros Armon has delivered its largest build yet, 68.2m (223.7ft) support catamaran WAYFINDER.

Featuring an exterior designed by Incat Crowther and an interior by Oliver Design the 1,737 GT vessel is the second catamaran to be launched by the builder and is a larger, more evolved version of the first 66.2m (217.2ft) support yacht HODOR, delivered in 2019.

Rumours are circulating that she will act as the support yacht for Bill Gates’ custom superyacht that is believed to currently be in build in the Netherlands and set to be delivered in 2022. However, YachtBuyer cannot verify this at the time of writing

Catamaran WAYFINDER will support the mothership with fuel and food supplies, a spare parts workshop and a rescue boat. She is also equipped with a helipad and hangar for a helicopter and is capable of storing three tenders up to 12m (39ft) and two small tenders on an open deck.

Accommodation wise she can house 18 crew members and 12 guests and is home to a guest beach club, medical facilities, a flower room and a pickleball court situated on her helicopter deck.

She sports twin MTU 16V 4000 M73L, with a top speed of 21 knots. Her propulsion system has been designed to reduce the vessel’s nitrogen oxide emissions to two grams per kilowatt-hour. In addition an onboard treatment plant cleans all the wastewater that is discharged into the ocean as well as treating and storing all the solid waste she generates on board.

WAYFINDER has high standards to live up to with the yard’s first catamaran HODOR being named Best Support Vessel at the World Superyacht Awards in 2020.

Support vessels, sometimes known as shadow vessels, are becoming more common. As well as being used to carry extra staff and equipment they also often work ahead to set up basecamp or find the right anchorage.
