Noted as ‘an injection of optimism’ by CdM co-founder Vasco Bunonpensiere, the new Explorer 40.22 model was built for an experienced owner who commissioned a “strong, comfortable, reliable vessel featuring technical characteristics similar to that of a merchant ship”.
Designed by Florence-based designer Tommaso Spadolini - with naval architecture by Sergio Cutolo of HydroTec, Crowbridge’s clean and simple silhouette places the emphasis firmly on comfort with a number of vast areas both inside and out created specifically for relaxation.
She has been built with a steel hull and aluminium superstructure. Her efficient, seaworthy hull form combined with robust steel construction help fulfill another of the owner’s requirements - a capable and reliable yacht that maximizes the quality of living of those aboard and can withstand all weather conditions.
The design also has a strong eye on the owners request that it be orientated towards family use with top class service on board.
With seven beautifully appointed guest suites, Crowbridge offers accommodation for 14. A full-beam owners suite with his and hers bathrooms occupies the main deck forward, and there are two VIP and four guest cabins on the lower deck. There are also an additional four cabins for the Captain and crew.
Power for the Explorer 40.22 comes from two Caterpillar C32 Acert engines for a top speed of 14 knots, and a range of 3,500nm at 10 knots.
With a length overall of 42m/138ft and a beam of 8.5m/28ft, the yacht will have a displacement of 400 tonnes at full load.
Established in 2010, Ancona-based CdM has been the one of the world’s leading builders of explorer yachts since 2015.
The launch of Crowbridge marks the first CdM yacht to hit the water since lockdown restrictions in Italy were lifted, signalling positive progress for Italian shipbuilders amid the COVID-19 crisis.
The shipyard is on course for a busy period with a further two yachts set to launch in the coming weeks.
