CL Yachts first CLX96 makes a splash

The 29.5m (95ft) Sea Activity Vessel has an eye-catching reverse-angle deckhouse and a design influenced by a New York City loft apartment.

CL Yachts’ “workboat chic” CLX96 Sea Activity Vessel has hit the water after the 29.5m (95ft) superyacht made her much anticipated technical launch.

The CLX96 features an iconic profile courtesy of Milan-based designer Jozeph Forakis who drew inspiration for the design from the New York City loft in which he was born.

Central to her eye-catching look is a two-level deckhouse with reverse-sheer windshields that serve a multi-functional purpose. Firstly, they ensure good sightlines in rough seas as water washes away smoothly and efficiently, and secondly the angle of the windshields reduces heat and glare, keeping the interior cool and comfortable for passengers.

“The yacht’s distinctive profile is born from observations of living habits at sea and reconsidering the preconceptions of space, comfort and conviviality” said Forakis. “Of course, comfort is a priority on a luxury yacht, but I also want those onboard to always be aware that they are on a ‘vessel’ built to transport them through space and time.”

The innovative design has already gained a number of accolades, with the CLX96 picking up a Good Design Award, a Bronze A’ Design Award and an International Yacht and Aviation Award.

The CLX96 can accommodate eight guests across four cabins, which includes a VIP suite with a digital skylight from an on-deck camera display on a screen embedded above the VIP king-size bed.

Elsewhere the new yacht has a distinctly indoor-outdoor feel with vast windows and bi-fold doors on the main deck and a skylounge with sliding glass on three sides, and there is a beach club with submerging swim platform. Twin Caterpillar C32 engines give the CLX96 a cruising speed of 22 knots and a top speed of 27 knots.
