Heesen begins construction on 50m superyacht 'Project Jade'

The new superyacht, also known as YN 20350, will be ready for delivery in 2024 and features a shallow draft and complies with IMO Tier-III regulations.

Heesen has announced it has begun work on 'Project Jade', the third yacht in its new 50m (164ft) semi-displacement class, at its shipyard in Oss in the Netherlands.

The fast cruising yacht will be the first of its kind below 500GT to comply with IMO Tier-III regulations, featuring two advanced MTU 16V 4000 M65L engines giving a top speed in excess of 23 knots and a range of 3,100nm at 11 knots. Heesen estimates that an optimized hull design will produce efficiency gains of 12 percent and reduce the overall draft to just 2.15m (7ft).

“This combination of speed and shallow draft makes the design ideal for cruising in shallow coastal waters such as the Bahamas, as well as the crystal clear waters of the Mediterranean,” commented Heesen’s CCO, Friso Visser. “It’s a compelling proposition for many yacht owners.”

Project Jade’s exterior styling comes from long-time collaborator Omega Architects, who have produced a curvy, sporty design with a subtle reverse sheer towards the bow, which both improves visibility from the bridge and accentuates the yacht’s sleek profile.

“The whole superstructure is slightly curved giving her a more elegant aft end, while the use of wrap around glass and loose exterior furniture mean deck spaces have generous seating, but remain airy, light and well detailed,” explains Frank Laupman, founder of Omega Architects.

One of the key design features of the superyacht is an elevated aft deck that holds a large whirlpool with sunpads, which is accessed via three steps up. This allows for a full-height beach club on the lower deck. Elsewhere 12 guests can be accommodated in five staterooms, with the master suite located on the main deck forward, and two twins and two doubles on the lower deck.

Interior design comes from Italian designer Cristiano Gatto, which the yard is calling “modern but cosy”. There is said to be a strong nautical influence with natural mirror and tempered glass taking inspiration from the seabed. The yacht’s namesake stone, jade, also features strongly.

Project Jade is set to be available for delivery in Spring 2024.
