Lürssen Superyacht Project ALI BABA Completes Sea Trials

Project ALI BABA, Lürssen's latest superyacht, successfully concludes sea trials in the North Sea and returns to the German shipyard.

The 142m (466ft) superyacht Project ALI BABA, constructed by Lürssen, has completed sea trials near Brunsbüttel, Germany. The yacht is on track for its anticipated delivery in December 2024.

Designed by Lürssen, a builder of some of the world's biggest yachts, Project ALI BABA features an exterior style reminiscent of the builder’s previous creation, superyacht PACIFIC X, which was delivered in 2010. The latest 9,400 GT full-custom yacht boasts four decks and includes two helipads, providing luxurious accommodation for up to 24 guests across 12 staterooms.

Project ALI BABA will enter the Top 20 of the YB100 - world's largest superyachts, behind Lurssen yachts OCTOPUS (9,935GT) and LUMINANCE (9,861GT).

A standout feature of the new superyacht Project ALI BABA is its highly efficient Diesel-Electric Hybrid Propulsion Concept. This advanced system integrates diesel-propulsion technology with modern electric propulsion systems. It includes two diesel engines that drive two controllable pitch propellers through individual gearboxes. These gearboxes are equipped with Power Take In/Power Take Off (PTI/PTO) units that can be used for either electric propulsion or generating electrical energy to power the superyacht.

Additionally, the Lürssen superyacht is fitted with an electric Azimuth Pod Drive. In electric mode, this drive can be operated independently or in conjunction with other propulsion components to achieve the yacht’s top speed of 14 knots.
