As the Monaco Yacht Show 2024 shuts its doors, YachtBuyer recounts several new records that have been set, providing the organizers with a strong foundation to build on for MYS 2025.
The leading headline and most notable record for 2024 was that Lürssen yacht GOLDEN ODYSSEY was the largest yacht to ever appear at the Monaco Yacht Show.
Just before the event started, it was revealed that superyacht GOLDEN ODYSSEY would take the berth originally allocated to Oceanco superyacht H3. Once confirmed, the new information placed GOLDEN ODYSSEY as the largest yacht at the 2024 Monaco Yacht Show with a 7,690 GT — volumetrically larger than RENAISSANCE with a 7,200 GT.
According to the YB100, the list of the world's biggest yachts, GOLDEN ODYSSEY ranks 27th, just ahead of RENAISSANCE in 28th place.
Before GOLDEN ODYSSEY entered into the show, the title of the largest yacht in-show was being disputed between Lurssen superyacht KISMET and Freire Shipyard superyacht RENAISSANCE. This, however, was based on length, prompting YachtBuyer to publish the facts about the actual size of the yachts by Gross Tonnage (GT), the volumetric measure, resulting in RENAISSANCE being labeled the larger of the two.
The 2024 show also set a new record for the longest yacht ever listed at the event, again the title going to GOLDEN ODYSSEY, the Lürssen superyacht measuring 123.2m (404ft), just ahead of KISMET at 122m (400ft).
The three aforementioned superyachts also broke another record, with the 2024 show featuring three yachts over 100 meters: GOLDEN ODYSSEY at 123m, Lurssen yacht KISMET at 122m, and the Freire Shipyard superyacht RENAISSANCE at 112m.
While the number of yachts in the 2024 show wasn't a record-breaker, the event still featured 116 superyachts (equal to the 2014 count), falling just behind the record of other top years such as 2019, 2018, and 2015, each of which saw 119 yachts. The all-time high remains with the 2016 edition, which featured an impressive 131 superyachts.
MYS 2024 also boasted the youngest-ever in-show fleet, with an average age of just 4.99 years. This marked a significant decrease from MYS 2023, where the average age was 8.21 years.
Following on from a successful 2024 edition, the 2025 Monaco Yacht Show will take place from September 24 to 27, 2025.
