Originally delivered in 1992, the 38.1m (125ft) superyacht PROTON — previously known as GOLDEN OLYMPIC — will undergo a refit after the yacht laid disused in Greece for the past six years.
With construction scheduled to begin in May this year, refitter Yachtbox predicts that PROTON will be completed and ready for the 2025 summer season, at which point it will be renamed LUIS LIMA.
The rebuild and refit of the exterior and interior will be overseen by Baran Akalın Yacht Design, while Alpha Marine Design handles the naval architecture. During the rebuild, PROTON will be lengthened by 4m (13ft) to accommodate a new, spacious beach club.
Additional enhancements will include a spa club, complete with a 7m pool and sauna on the lower deck, alongside a collapsible helipad, and a Jacuzzi lounge on the upper deck bow. The owner's cabin will also undergo reconstruction on this deck, featuring two dressing rooms, a separate salon, and a zen garden lounge.
The main deck will be equipped with new indoor and outdoor dining areas, while the main saloon and four VIP cabins — with ensuite bathrooms — will undergo a redesign. An additional Jacuzzi will be installed on the flybridge, accompanied by a lounge area featuring a bar, dining table, and spacious sunbeds. An elevator will also be installed for added convenience. The only unchanged aspect onboard will be the engine room, although the actual engines will be upgraded.
The exterior was originally designed by Pavratos, while N. Papathomas styled the interiors. In its original guise, PROTON could accommodate 12 guests across six cabins, in addition to eight crew members. With its current propulsion package, PROTON can maintain a cruising speed of 13 knots, with a maximum speed of 16 knots, over a range of up to 3,000nm.
