Winch Design unveils sustainable Amels 60 interior

Charged with creating a completely sustainable interior, British-based Winch Design has incorporated some unique materials into its first two design concepts.

A leather alternative made from pineapple leaves and fabric made from citrus juice are amongst the materials used in two ultra-sustainable interior concepts developed for the new Amels 60 range by Winch Design.

The concepts, named Barefoot and Moonlight, have been created over a period of six months and play with contrasting colors, themes and materials.

With the whole interior, from floorboards to cushion fabrics, needing to be sustainably sourced the team at Winch Design has come up with a host of design choices to fulfill that need.

Pinatex, a material made from pineapple leaves that undergoes a chemical-free process to provide an alternative to leather, and Orange Fibre the first sustainable fabric made from citrus juice feature throughout the designs. As does Tomoxotle, a textural material developed from corn husks.

Other innovative solutions include coral alternatives crafted from eggshells and cushions made from yarn from birchwood spun through a sustainable process.

Of the two concepts themselves, Barefoot is described as “the lighter and warmer of the two interiors” with Moonlight acting as “Barefoot’s moodier sister”. Barefoot’s color palette is more neutral with hints of powder blue and the use of sustainable woods. Moonlight’s feel is edgier and slicker and inspired by “the feeling of a moonlit swim in the ocean”.

The British design studio has placed an increased focus on sustainability in recent years. It signed the Water Revolutions Code of Conduct in 2020 and has recently devised a three-year plan to work more sustainably.

The Amels 60 is the latest addition to Amels popular Limited Editions range with the Dutch yard claiming it represents the ‘shape of the future’ of the range. It features a new hull design concept and an Espen Oeino penned exterior. Already four hulls are under construction.

A mix of custom and platform build techniques means the Limited Edition series has become popular as delivery time can be reduced from years to as little as a few months. To find out more view all Amels yachts for sale.
