This category rewards builders and designers for innovative layouts enhancing the usability of the yacht for both owner and crew. While considering the entire GA, the judges also consider creative layout elements specifically for safety, security, service, elegance in traffic flow, multiple use areas, space flexibility, disabled access, and tender deployment. Elandess edged out the more voluminous DAR with its sports complex at the stern and multiple boarding points, by her emphasis on a unique, family-specific layout. The Elandess team created a plan that functions well even in “full boat” mode. Separating the main staircase and lift, for example, reduces bottlenecks, and the judges remarked how a corridor bend augments the privacy of the owner’s suite. Placing the gym and Neptune Lounge on the same level as the family cabins is smart, but the masterstrokes are the substantial crew service areas linking all decks and hidden access to the equally hidden mezzanine- level bridge, office and captain’s cabin. A massive split-level sundeck also scored points for its liveability.
