Bertram Boats History & Heritage

Bertram's narrative unfolds as a distinctive chapter in the broader history of modern motorboats. Established in 1960 by founder and American powerboating luminary Richard Bertram, the brand quickly gained acclaim for its fast and seaworthy pleasure boats.

Collaborating with the renowned designer Raymond C Hunt, Bertram introduced pioneering deep-vee-hulled yachts, drawing inspiration from Bertram's legendary 31ft racer, MOPPIE. With Bertram firmly rooted in the industry, these models evolved into iconic sportsfisher designs, exemplified by the enduring popularity of its 28 and 35 flybridge models, which created a lasting genre and remained in production for decades. Notably, the Bertram 35 continues to be a current model, attesting to its timeless design.

Following Richard Bertram's departure from the business, Bertram underwent several changes in ownership. In 1998, it became part of the Ferretti Group, and later, in 2011, the Gavio Group took ownership. Despite this series of Italian ownership, Bertram yachts continue to be crafted in the United States, specifically in Tampa, Florida.
