Design & Construction

Designed around a displacement steel hull and an aluminium superstructure she features a 11.3m beam and a 3.5m draft. The yacht is built over 4 decks with an internal volume of 1,241 GT (Gross Tonnes).

Launched in June 2023 this yacht undertook sea trials over the following months. She was delivered to her owners in April 2024.

Exterior Design

Akula’s exterior is Ice-Classed and very functional, reflecting its purpose as a global explorer yacht. The yacht's red paint has been applied in a matte, untreated commercial finish, designed for minimal maintenance. This red extends to the upper-deck bow, contrasting sharply with the white superstructure, broken by a touch of orange at the base of the mast on the sundeck.

Designer Gian Paolo Nari, commissioned for his expertise in crafting sturdy, reliable vessels, focused on creating a silhouette that conveys strength and durability. Akula’s design draws inspiration from large commercial ships and research vessels. The clean profile and military-inspired details are evident in the sharp angles and solid structure.

The yacht's imposing presence is softened by strategic design elements. Nari introduced "subtractions" or openings, such as large side windows, a big aft garage, and an open-air observation deck carved into the bow. These components reduce the visual mass and give Akula a sophisticated, modern identity.

Interior Design

The interior design of the yacht Akula has a blend of industrial and natural elements, creating a unique atmosphere. European oak joinery is prominently used throughout the interior, left untreated to preserve its natural texture.

The main-deck entrance greets guests with a boot room and includes stone flooring and deep sofas. The room is equipped with slatted wooden doors concealing cupboards with built-in drains and air conditioning to store and dry gear.

Akula doesn't have a traditional saloon or grand central staircase on the main deck. Instead, a spiral staircase with floating wooden steps is tucked into the corner leads to the upper deck.  The main saloon on the upper deck is divided by an angled wall, separating the seating area from the dining room. The seating area includes a curved sofa, while the dining table, custom designed by FM Architettura, features a base inspired by gears and a top made from wood with tobacco leaf inserts. The dining room is framed by arched columns covered in recycled Kevlar sails.

The interior spaces also include personal areas for the owners. The owner's "man cave" features nautical antiques, while the owner's wife has a "craft cave" with a custom-made table for embroidery and other crafts.

Accommodation

Akula offers a distinctive accommodation layout, designed with a focus on the owner's personal needs and preferences. The yacht is structured to primarily cater to the owners, with an emphasis on personal spaces rather than extensive guest facilities. The owners' cabin is located on the main deck and features an unconventional layout. This includes a bedroom positioned to port and a raised platform library area to starboard, allowing for an inviting space that feels like a veranda, offering views for relaxation and reading.

In addition to the owners' cabin, Akula houses three additional guest cabins. These are designed to provide comfort and privacy for friends and family who may join the owners on their journeys. The guest accommodations are complemented by a media room, ensuring entertainment options are readily available.

She is also capable of carrying up to 13 crew onboard to ensure a relaxed luxury yacht experience.
