Design & Construction
Designed around a full displacement steel hull and an aluminium superstructure she features a 11m beam and a 3.5m draft. The yacht is built over 3 decks with an internal volume of 1,049 GT (Gross Tonnes).
Construction started in late 1996. The yacht was designed and constructed in compliance with the Lloyds Register technical standards.
Exterior Design
Katharine features a large and attractive sun deck with a splash pool and two significant seating areas grouped around tables. One seating area is open, and the other is shaded, providing flexible options for outdoor relaxation. The sun deck is finished with laid teak decking extending around the central funnel structure, which conceals a shower and head compartment made from polished Brazilian granite.
Forward-facing seats offer an unobstructed view ahead, while the main social area at the aft includes a three-sided square of comfortable sofas. These sofas, upholstered in a special white cotton material with a sea-blue border hand-woven in Sardinia, surround a low teak table. The circular table, adorned with a mosaic of playful dolphins, can be raised and extended to accommodate alfresco dining for up to 12 people. A barbecue and buffet area is located along the port rail, provisioned directly from the galley via a food lift. Matching teak-topped cabinets on the starboard side house the liferafts and their launching ramps.
The upper deck's alfresco area maintains a slightly more formal atmosphere, featuring white tongue-and-groove boarding for the sofa bases and waterproof lamps on corner tables. The sun awning is made of real canvas, supported by spruce combs with integrated spotlights. The McGuire bamboo chairs have a "Tiger Crackle" finish, and the large teak dining table includes a central panel of green glass that can be underlit.
Interior Design
Katharine's interior design prioritizes functionality and understated elegance. The formal dining room, accessed through double sliding doors, is paneled in cherry wood stained to a mid-mahogany tone. This room features Chinoiserie-style furnishings, Chinese porcelain ornaments, and silk chair-backs. The dining table, made of large teak, has a central panel of green glass that can be underlit.
Adjacent to the dining room is a large lobby with a semicircular staircase. The main saloon, or drawing room, is designed with raised and fielded cherry paneling and an Adam fireplace. This room includes a bamboo-sculptured white wool carpet from Taiping, Chinese vases, and soft furnishings by Roland Cotter-Kroboth of Long Island. The room is arranged with two seating areas: one surrounding the fireplace and another facing a large television.
The family saloon, located aft on the main deck, is smaller and densely furnished with sofas, armchairs, a green leather ottoman, and a small bar with green leather seats. This room opens onto a shaded deck area with curved wicker sofas designed by Carol Scanu.
The day head off the main hallway features honey-colored onyx for the washbasin, splashback, and floor, with gold Sardanelli taps. Semi-precious stones are used extensively in the bathrooms throughout the yacht.

Katharine offers a well-appointed accommodation for 12 guests in six cabins. The master stateroom is a notable highlight, situated to provide the utmost comfort and luxury. This full-beam suite includes a dedicated sitting area furnished with a sofa, easy chairs, and occasional tables, creating a spacious and inviting environment. The en suite bathrooms in these cabins are also tastefully furnished with onyx, providing a luxurious touch to the accommodations.
