Panam is a 39.8m motor yacht delivered by Italian shipyard Baglietto in 2021. Her interior design and exterior styling comes from the drawing boards of Francesco Paszkowski Design, while P.L.A.N.A. is responsible for her naval architecture.
Design & Construction
Designed around a displacement aluminium hull and superstructure she features a 8.4m beam and a 2m draft. The yacht is built over 3 decks with an internal volume of 340 GT (Gross Tonnes).
This was the fifth yacht built on the Custom design.
Exterior Design
Crafted with an unwavering commitment to excellence, Panam's exterior design is a testament to the harmonious fusion of speed-centric aesthetics. The vessel's commanding presence is immediately apparent, with her gunmetal-grey hull slicing through the waves, propelled by the sheer force of her 31-knot top speed.
At the heart of Panam's design ethos is the collaboration between Baglietto and the esteemed Francesco Paszkowski, whose shared vision has brought to life a yacht that is as swift as it is sophisticated. The vertical bow is a striking feature, not only for its visual impact but for its contribution to Panam's powerful performance. The incorporation of a step near the waterline accentuates the yacht's sporty and aggressive lines, creating a dynamic silhouette that is both imposing and inviting.
The tri-deck yacht's profile is a meticulous blend of contemporary design and timeless elegance, as seen in the trapezoidal windows that punctuate her compact stature. The square-shaped stern pays homage to classic Baglietto styling, while the vertical bow and sleek structure convey a modern sensibility that is unmistakably forward-thinking.
Innovation lies at the core of Panam's construction, with extensive use of composite materials to ensure optimal performance without compromising on luxury. Carbon fiber plays a crucial role, utilized in the hull doors and mast to achieve a superior balance between strength and weight. This commitment to cutting-edge materials extends to the sundeck's fiberglass swimming pool and the pioneering design of the floodable tender garage—a marvel of engineering that simplifies the launch and retrieval of the yacht's 5.5-meter tender without the need for a davit.
The tender garage itself is a highlight, both for its ingenuity and its seamless integration into the yacht's design. The side shell door's lower edge sits below the waterline, allowing the tender to be easily towed inside by a winch and balanced cradle. This innovative system ensures that the garage can be swiftly filled with seawater for effortless tender operations, and then just as quickly drained, leaving no trace of its utilitarian purpose.
Interior Design
Stepping within the confines of Panam, one is immediately enveloped by an interior that exudes contemporary elegance, a stark yet refreshing contrast to her formidable exterior. The main salon, a sanctuary of tranquility and style, beckons with its neutral-hued soft furnishings that are bathed in natural light, thanks to the expansive full-height windows and glass sliding doors that frame the sea beyond. This luminosity is not by chance but a deliberate design ethos that maintains an intimate connection with the marine environment.
The attention to detail is palpable as one's gaze lands on the living vertical garden – a verdant tapestry that provides a natural partition between the salon and the forward dining area. This green installation is more than an aesthetic choice; it is a functional element that divides without isolating, allowing for an uninterrupted flow through the main deck. Designer Francesco Paszkowski, in collaboration with Margherita Casprini, has carefully curated these spaces, infusing them with woods, polished lacquered panels, and a muted palette that mirrors the serenity of the sea.
The materials selected are not only chosen for their visual appeal but also for the tactile experience they offer. Sand oak graces the interior flooring, while a specially treated striped sand oak adorns the walls, creating a subtle wave effect that is further accentuated by varnished metal sheeting on the ceiling, creating a captivating three-dimensional illusion. This bespoke treatment is evident in the main deck lobby and continues into the owner's stateroom, a testament to the yacht's custom craftsmanship.
Panam's interiors are further embellished with a judicious use of leather, glass, and white backlit onyx – the latter casting a soft glow on the walls flanking the living garden wall in the main salon. The selection of marbles on board speaks to the owner's hands-on approach to the design process: glossy Persian Gray marble in the owner's shower, pristine Calacatta marble flooring, and an ensemble of Marfil Cream, Eramosa, and Coffee Brown marbles that adorn the guest and VIP bathrooms and the dayhead. Each stone, each texture, contributes to the narrative of opulent yet understated luxury.
The expansive beam of nearly 28 feet is utilized to its full potential, ensuring that the spaciousness of the living areas does not compromise the yacht's high-performance capabilities. This spatial generosity is most apparent in the full-beam forward owner's stateroom and bath, where a cleverly designed dog-leg wall discreetly separates the owner's office from the suite, prioritizing privacy. The inclusion of opening windows in this space is a thoughtful touch, allowing one to invite the sea breeze inside, further enhancing the onboard experience.
Accommodation
Panam can host a total of up to 10 guests, ensuring that each individual experiences the utmost in comfort and privacy during their time on board.
The highlight of Panam's accommodations is undoubtedly the owner's stateroom, which spans the full beam of the yacht. This luxurious suite is a private haven, thoughtfully separated from the rest of the vessel to ensure the utmost privacy. The dog-leg wall cleverly divides the owner's office from the suite, and the inclusion of opening windows allows for the invigorating sea breeze to permeate the space, enhancing the connection to the ocean. The owner's stateroom is outfitted with the finest materials, featuring glossy Persian Gray marble in the shower and Calacatta marble flooring, creating an atmosphere of refined elegance.
Guests aboard Panam are treated to equally luxurious accommodations. The yacht features four additional guest cabins, each adorned with a sophisticated blend of materials including Marfil Cream marble, Eramosa, and Coffee Brown marble in the VIP bathrooms and day head. These cabins are situated on the lower deck, offering guests a tranquil retreat with sumptuous décor and state-of-the-art comfort.
The yacht also takes into account the need for a professional and attentive crew to ensure a seamless experience for guests. To this end, Panam provides comfortable and well-appointed quarters for up to 7 crew.
Performance & Capabilities
At the heart of Panam's performance prowess lies her state-of-the-art propulsion system, meticulously engineered to deliver both high-speed cruising and comfortable long-range voyages. Powered by triple MTU 16V 2000 M96L diesel engines, each producing an impressive 2,600 horsepower, Panam is equipped to surge through the seas with vigor and precision. This potent combination enables the yacht to achieve a remarkable top speed of 31 knots, cruising at 27 knots, allowing guests to experience an exhilarating ride while traversing vast stretches of open water.
The advanced engineering extends beyond sheer power to ensure that Panam's voyages remain as smooth as they are swift. To mitigate the effects of rolling and enhance onboard stability, particularly at high speeds or in rough sea conditions, Panam is outfitted with cutting-edge stabilizers. These sophisticated systems are essential in maintaining the yacht's equilibrium, thereby ensuring the utmost comfort for all aboard, whether at anchor or underway.
In terms of range, with her 40,000 litre fuel tanks, she has a maximum of 1,800 nautical miles at an economic speed of 12 knots, providing the ideal balance between high-speed jaunts and leisurely exploration.
Technical intricacies such as the position and length of the shaft lines, which run 27.7 meters from the transom to the gearbox flange, underscore the complexity and innovation behind Panam's mechanical configuration. This design choice is indicative of the thoughtfulness applied to every aspect of the vessel's performance characteristics, ensuring that operation remains seamless for the crew and imperceptible to the guests.
Amenities
Waterfront living can be enjoyed to the fullest, thanks to a large beach club and connecting swim platform with plenty of space for sitting back and admiring the sea views. The yacht can house plenty of nautical toys and accessories, with a well-appointed tender garage for storing her impressive locker. Air conditioning offers increased on-board comfort and underwater lights will turn plenty of heads when the sun goes down. The sundeck is the social hub of the yacht, with a deck jacuzzi for cooling off and an inviting spread of sunpads.
