Akula is a 52.3m motor yacht delivered by Italian shipyard Baglietto in 2024. The yacht's elegant exterior design is by Francesco Paszkowski Design, while her interiors are the work of Enrico Gobbi.

Key Features

  • Open stern with three-level beach club
  • Skylounge opens on three sides
  • Movable floor system conceals large pool
  • Spacious 78-foot sundeck

Design & Construction

Designed around a fast displacement steel hull and an aluminium superstructure she features a 8.9m beam and a 2.7m draft. The yacht is built over 3 decks with an internal volume of 498 GT (Gross Tonnes).

Construction started in early 2022. This was the third yacht built on the T52 design. The yacht was designed and constructed in compliance with the Lloyds Register technical standards. Launched in May 2024 this yacht undertook sea trials over the following months. She was delivered to her owners in July 2024.

Exterior Design

Akula presents a striking visual profile, with its hull finished in a dark grey shade, conveying a sense of power and aggression. The passerelle is robust and wide, integrating stairs for easy boarding. It reflects recent advancements in design, focusing on practicality and comfortable access.

The T52's sunken cockpit functions as an open-air beach club, featuring a fold-down swim platform at the transom for direct water access. The tiered beach club stands out from typical fold-out designs, offering a spacious area with layout cushions for relaxation. The aft deck is well-sized, equipped to handle toys and mooring gear such as capstans and oversized bollards.

A standout feature is the convertible pool, which can transform into a flat deck. Extensions around the pool area provide additional safety when necessary. The aft deck's seating is flexible, with loose furniture for easy customization. Structural columns with integrated lighting and protective glass panels add a touch of sophistication and reduce wind exposure.

The bow serves as an entertainment space, with a wing station equipped with controls for essential functions. Visibility from this station extends from the swim platform to the bow, enhancing safety. The bow also includes oversized windlasses, pocket anchors, and a carbon-fiber crane for launching jet skis, simplifying deployment and retrieval. A retractable forward masthead light complies with maritime regulations for vessels over 50 meters.

The sun deck offers over 70 square meters for leisure activities. It includes seating for 12, a lounge pad, and an entertainment bar equipped with a sink, drink fridge, ice maker, and grill. A large skylight provides natural light, while the dining table can accommodate 10 to 12 guests. The area includes both built-in and loose furniture for easy reconfiguration.

Shortly after Akula was launched, Baglietto's T52 series clinched the prestigious 2024 World Superyacht Award for Displacement Motor Yachts 499GT and below, 45m and above. Highlighting the yacht's standout features, the judging panel particularly lauded its expansive 135sq/m sundeck, hailing it as "one of the best spaces onboard."

M/Y Akula presents a striking dark grey hull, offering powerful performance with twin Caterpillar engines cruising comfortably at 12 knots.

Interior Design

Styled by Enrico Gobbi of Venice-based Team for Design, the interiors are modern and bright, featuring geometric LED lighting and a color scheme of cream and grey with accents of sunshine yellow and gold. The upper deck's sky lounge stands out, offering floor-to-ceiling windows on three sides that can be fully retracted. This design allows for panoramic sea views while providing shelter from the elements, ensuring the space remains comfortable throughout the year. The lounge features a retractable TV and a large dining table, accommodating various social settings.

The office space on board provides a practical environment for work-related activities. It is designed to be quiet and private, allowing for uninterrupted calls or meetings. The connection between the steward’s pantry and the galley enhances service efficiency, making it easier to cater to guests' needs.

In the galley, high-end appliances are installed to support professional culinary operations. A commercial induction cooktop, pizza oven, and two dishwashers ensure that meal preparation is streamlined. The galley is also equipped with a walk-in fridge and freezer, providing ample storage for extended journeys.

The bridge prioritizes functionality, featuring five screens dedicated to navigation, radar, CCTV, and vessel management. Helm chairs, a comfortable dinette, and a workstation for the first officer are thoughtfully arranged for optimal workflow.

Accommodation

The yacht offers accommodation in six cabins. The owner’s suite is a highlight, featuring a king-size bed and a walk-in closet with thoughtful lighting. The en-suite bathroom is equipped with dual vanities, a steam shower, and brushed brass fixtures, providing a high standard of comfort and convenience.

Crew accommodation is designed to facilitate smooth operations, with a crew mess adjacent to the galley that comfortably accommodates six to eight people, ensuring the crew can perform their duties efficiently while enjoying modern amenities.

Performance & Capabilities

Powered by twin diesel Caterpillar (C32) 1,470hp engines, motor yacht Akula is capable of reaching a top speed of 16 knots, and comfortably cruises at 12 knots. With her 70,000 litre fuel tanks she has a maximum range of 4,500 nautical miles at 11 knots.
