Originally known as YN 20750, Project Orion underwent her keel laying on September 14 at the Oss shipyard.
Completed with ABS surveyors being witnesses to the procedure, the keel laying of Project Orion has been described as "an exciting moment" by Friso Visser, Heesen's CCO.
Measuring up at 50m (164ft), the initial specifications suggest a sub-500 GT enclosed volume and will be powered with two MTU 12V 2000 M61 (IMO III) engines.
Comprising design inputs from Van Oossanen on the naval architecture, exterior designs by Omega Architects and interiors from Cristiano Gatto Design, the latest unit of the Heesen 50m FHDF series will be powered by Heesen’s hybrid propulsion system.
Capable of silent cruising and dropping the consumption rate to just 45 litres an hour while cruising at 10 knots, the eco-friendly mannerisms of Project Orion will undoubtedly be a big selling point for her future Owner.
Interiors of Project Orion are said to be "a unique contemporary interior design, making the most out of bright internal spaces, ablazed with natural light".
Quoting a six-cabin layout with a composition of a main deck master cabin, a full beam VIP plus two double and two twin cabins on the lower deck, Heesen are saying the end result will be suitable for both private and charter voyages.
