The 6 Largest Superyachts Delivered in 2024

YachtBuyer sets the record straight on which superyachts delivered in 2024 were truly the largest...

Legacy yachting media often ranks yachts by Length Overall (LOA), but this method overlooks a crucial factor: size isn’t just about length. A yacht’s true scale includes its internal space and volume. At YachtBuyer, we use Gross Tonnage (GT) as the gold standard, combining internal volume and length to provide a more accurate ranking. With this approach, we reveal the definitive list of the largest superyachts delivered in 2024 — measured by GT.

No.1

LUMINANCE by Lurssen: 9,861 GT

Unlike many other media outlets that have placed DRAGONFLY as the largest superyacht to be delivered in 2024, the true title belongs to Lurssen’s megayacht LUMINANCE

Despite being 138.8m —  3.28m shorter than 142.08m DRAGONFLY — LUMINANCE boasts a gigantic 9,861 GT (453 GT more than DRAGONFLY) securing her rank #15 on the YachtBuyer YB100, the true measure of the world's largest yachts. After hitting the water for the first time back in February 2023 for sea trials, the superyacht was eventually delivered to its owner in January 2024.

Externally, the Lurssen superyacht boasts twin helicopter pads, one fore and one aft. The aft section, however, is even more special, boasting a generous beach club and an infinity pool right at sea level. Up front, there's a private pool on the foredeck, hinting at a dedicated owner's deck above. Talk about luxury!

Inside, there's a gym to keep you in shape and a luxury spa for all the relaxation you could wish for. The large beach club is also connected to a swim platform, providing ample space to lounge and soak up the spectacular sea views. Let's not forget the sundeck either, the yacht's social hub, complete with a jacuzzi for cooling off and inviting sun pads for soaking up the rays.

DRAGONFLY by Lurssen: 9,408 GT

The second largest yacht to be delivered in 2024 is the Lurssen superyacht DRAGONFLY, cruising into rank #17 in the YB100 with a whopping internal volume of 9,408 GT. Originally commissioned as the replacement for 85m PACIFIC X, the 142.08m motor yacht DRAGONFLY features a similar exterior penned by Argentinian designer German Frers, showcasing sharp, battleship-inspired lines. She is now reportedly owned by Google Co-Founder, Sergey Brin.

DRAGONFLY offers 1,000 square meters of exterior space and 2,000 square meters inside, and onboard you'll find some clever design features such as fold-out balconies near the bow and large doors at the stern, likely leading to the tender garage. Up front, there’s a sweeping seating area with tables and the first of two helipads.

The sundeck aft holds the second helipad and a hidden helicopter hangar, potentially housing a Leonardo AW139, like the one on the 142-meter superyacht NORD. The upper deck, featuring a large dining table and comfy U-shaped sofas, offers a shady retreat for those lounging by the main deck pool or enjoying a drink at the outside bar.

BREAKTHROUGH by Feadship: 7,247 GT

Making a surprise entrance as the third largest yacht delivered this year is Feadship's superyacht BREAKTHROUGH, which has a huge internal volume of 7,247 GT, placing it at rank #29 in the YB100. This last-minute entrant has knocked motor yacht ELEMENTS off the list.

The delivery of the world's first-ever hydrogen fuel-cell superyacht to its owner has been confirmed by its flag state changing to the Cayman Islands and the activation of its Automatic Identification System (AIS). The 118.8m superyacht is Feadship's largest build to date and also the biggest to ever be launched in the Netherlands.

Utilizing green hydrogen, BREAKTHROUGH operates its hotel load and amenities emission-free, powered by a fuel that produces only electricity and water as by-products. For propulsion, the superyacht is equipped with a pair of ABB Azipod DO 1100 Pods, two 900kW MTU generators, two 2,500kW MTU generators, and 16 185kW PowerCell H2 generators, enabling a range of 6,500nm at 14 knots.

We have now shown that cryogenic storage of liquified hydrogen in the interior of a superyacht is a viable solution. Future innovations on fuel cells and onboard reforming of methanol to hydrogen are on the near horizon."

Feadship

Despite its limited capacity for long voyages when using hydrogen, BREAKTHROUGH's fuel cell technology significantly curtails carbon emissions by powering the yacht's hotel load — integral to its energy consumption. The yacht can cruise emission-free for a short period or operate silently at anchor for up to a week thanks to its 543kWh energy storage capacity.

ULYSSES by Feadship: 3,000 GT

Closing out the largest superyachts to be delivered in 2024 is another Feadship build, yacht ULYSSES. Featuring an internal volume of 3,000 GT, the superyacht sits at rank #83 in the YB100 following its delivery in April 2024.

Externally, Sinot's design philosophy is clear, delivering an assertive exterior with the top three decks appearing to hover, encased in transparent walls of glass for a striking visual impact. This makes up a large part of the 1,100 square meters of exterior glass that floods the interiors with natural light. The 102.60m motor yacht is believed to be owned by Graeme Hart, reportedly New Zealand's wealthiest individual. Consequently, no interior photos have been disclosed publicly.

Onboard, ULYSSES offers accommodation for up to 20 guests in 10 suites. The cabin layout includes an owner's suite on the private owner's deck; two VIP staterooms on the pool deck, and a further seven guest cabins on the main deck. And, let's not forget about the 30-strong crew. They're accommodated in 20 crew cabins on the lower deck, while the captain's cabin and ship's office are situated on the pool deck.

[ULYSSES] is a masterclass in space planning and rule exploration."

Feadship

The yacht's gigantic size would normally necessitate a two-tier engine room, however, ULYSSES utilizes a single-deck engine room, strategically constructed to allocate more interior volume for guest use. Despite this, the motor yacht is capable of reaching a top speed of 17 knots, and can comfortably cruise at 12 knots for a maximum range of 5,000nm.
