New Zealand-based Lloyd Stevenson Boatbuilders has launched its first custom Catalyst tender, 15m (50ft) SKORPIOS.
She will be used as a chase boat for her mothership, a 38m (125ft) superyacht currently under construction also called SKORPIOS, while carrying out duties such as handling the 160kg anchor and delivering water and diesel supplies.
A variation on its Catalyst 45 tender, one notable change is that it has been extended by just over 2m to 15m (50ft). A Catalyst straight from the production line is usually 13.7m (45ft).
The additional space will be put to good use, she will house the motherships 160kg anchor which can be deployed from the tender via a winch and then attached to the mothership. She will also hold 500 liters of water and 1000 liters of diesel.
Another custom feature is a narrowed offset cabin that creates additional deck space for storage and maintenance tasks. She also features an enclosed foredeck area.
Constructed from carbon and e-glass with a foam core SKORPIOS has a top speed of 45 knots, even when carrying the additional weight from her mothership.
SKORPIOS is an adapted version of Lloyd Stevenson’s Catalyst 45, a 13.7m (45ft) vessel built initially as a high-performance catamaran chase boat for the Emirates Team New Zealand Americas Cup challenge.
Previously built by Salthouse Boats, Catalyst found a new home with Lloyd Stevenson Boatbuilders (LSB) in 2020. Each new Catalyst 45 is custom built to meet individual owner requirements. This is LSBs first Catalyst and number 19 in the Catalyst family. Lloyd Stevenson Builders has been constructing custom-built composite and timber vessels since 1985.
