Suntex Marinas and Almar Marinas announce merger

Two major players in the US marina industry are merging, as Suntex Marinas and Almar Marinas join forces.

This partnership means that Almar's marinas, along with its marina-management division, will now officially become part of the Suntex portfolio.

Marina Del Ray California

With this merger, Suntex, already the owner of the largest standalone recreational marinas in the United States and the largest operator of coastal marinas along the US West Coast, gains access to some highly prestigious properties. Notably, Marina Del Rey Marina in Marina Del Rey, California, will now fall under the Suntex umbrella.

Additional sought-after locations including the Peninsula Yacht Marina, Bahia Marina, and Westport Marina in Channel Islands Harbor in Oakland, are also part of the major deal. In total, the merger involves eight Almar-owned marinas in California and nine others under its management in California and Hawaii.

According to Bryan Redmond, CEO of Suntex Marinas, there were several reasons for this partnership. He highlights the shared ethos between Almar Marinas and Suntex, emphasizing their commitment to providing a world-class hospitality experience at every marina. Subject to government approval, the four marinas in Oakland are expected to officially join Suntex Marinas within the next 60 days.

Our philosophy at Almar is that a marina is not just a place for a boat to berth. It’s a complex set of diverse and interrelated activities designed to meet the needs of boaters and the public. [The goal is] to create a quality resort-like experience that is safe, clean, secure, and friendly for our customers and our communities.”
