On Deck

Nick first admires the Beneteau Antares 12 for its great aesthetics and sports fisher style design. He particularly likes the flared bow and the swoop down to the transom, as well as the stainless steel around the windows. On the transom itself, there is a cantilever door that opens and closes in an unusual way. The yacht’s cockpit is left completely open, suitable for uninterrupted fishing off the back of the boat. There are supports for rod holders around the boat, reinforcing the sports fisher theme.

The flybridge is easily accessible, and the helm is placed at the back, a feature of sports fishers, which allows easy communication with people fishing at the back of the boat. The seating can be converted into a sunbathing area. Of further note are the wooden caps on the side decks and the bathing cushions on the large foredeck area.

Interior

The interior is spacious and well-lit, with light wood and large windows that let in plenty of light. The boat features a galley in the main saloon, equipped with a sink, hob, microwave and a cutlery drawer. Also found is a fridge and a waste bin, which are considered to be practical additions.

The helm of the boat includes double seating, Raymarine E120 screen, autopilot, VHF radio, throttle controls, and a bow thruster. Nick finds the accommodation impressive for a 12 meter boat. There are two separate self-contained areas, each with a double bed and an ensuite. These areas have plenty of storage and even a TV in the master cabin.

Nick also explains why the floor might creak, as the lift-out panels give access to the bilges. He shows the large drawers under the bed for storage and the separate shower cubicles in the ensuites.

Performance

The boat is powered by a pair of Volvo D6-370 horsepower engines, which can propel the boat at a maximum speed of about 25 knots and cruise at 20 knots with a range of about 250 miles. The boat is also equipped with a generator and air conditioning.

In Summary

Nick concludes by expressing his admiration for the Beneteau Antares 12, calling it an intriguing and great-looking boat with a very purposeful feeling.
