Design & Build

With its distinctive appearance resembling a blend of a yacht and gunboat, the Bluegame BGX73 embodies versatility. It's undoubtedly a sports yacht, capable of reaching speeds close to 30 knots, boasting sleek performance aesthetics, and offering a luxurious interior. Additionally, its practical design makes it suitable for fishing, with its expansive open deck providing an ideal space for landing a catch.

However, it also exudes a tougher, more commercial demeanor, characterized by its grey tones and raked bow reminiscent of naval vessels. The deep-vee hull also underscores its focus on slicing through the seas efficiently, prioritizing performance over cabin volume.

The onboard layout of the Bluegame BGX73 is truly unique for its size category. While most yachts of similar length typically feature three or four cabins, the BGX73 stands out with its configuration of two cabins, with a significant portion — three-quarters — dedicated solely to the owner.

While there is an option for a three-cabin layout, it seems contrary to the essence of this yacht. This layout is particularly well-suited for an owner seeking some personal space or a couple planning to cruise independently, occasionally hosting guests with the assistance of a small crew if needed. In this scenario, the possibilities become intriguing.

Interior Accommodation

On the BGX73, a couple of steps lead from the cockpit into a lower salon, positioned roughly at the waterline. This area features low-level seating, large side windows, and a spacious sliding aft door, creating a memorable atmosphere. The glass sides of the companionway on the starboard side add a stylish touch. For those concerned about water ingress, there's a concealed scupper across the threshold and a solid panel that can be fitted across the doors, functioning like a removable transom, to ensure the yacht remains watertight during rough weather conditions.

Owner Takes All

Positioned forward of the salon is the expansive full-beam stateroom, which imparts a sense of having an owner’s deck all to oneself, as it connects directly to the salon.

While this layout may entail guests passing through the owner’s cabin to access the aft salon, a stairwell from the salon to the main deck offers a workaround, albeit a slight detour that enhances privacy. The owner’s cabin boasts ample space, featuring a stylish floating study and dressing area on the test boat, generously sized hull windows, and a well-appointed ensuite bathroom.

Forward of the owner’s cabin, there are several options for layout configuration, with one of the most versatile arrangements featuring a convertible dinette area along with a VIP cabin situated in the bow section.

Transitioning to the main deck salon, which doubles as a wheelhouse, one finds guest seating arrangements and a compact galley space. Characterized by a teak sole and planked deckhead, this area exudes a functional yet stylish ambiance.

Helm Station

While situated on the main deck, the helm station offers a raised perspective and exudes a sense of purpose, boasting commercial-grade windscreens enveloping the entire wheelhouse.

Positioned centrally within the console are throttle controls, reminiscent of those found on race boats, flanked by twin seats and a comprehensive array of triple MFDs for relaying navigational and performance data. Direct access to both the port side deck and the aft deck is available from the helm station, with two separate stairwells facilitating passage to the lower deck.

Deck Lifestyle

The main deck features a walkaround design, offering uninterrupted access from the aft deck to the forward lounge area, with stairs leading down to the lower deck aft.

This layout provides a sense of security and elevation, particularly evident in the raised foredeck lounge and the sheltered aft seating area. Steps lead to the wheelhouse roof, which features a teak platform ideal for sunbathing or as a lookout post.

Descending to the lower deck aft, you encounter a versatile space that serves as both a tender bay and a lounge area. The yacht's tall flanks extend aft, forming a secure, sheltered, and visually striking terrace.

Our Verdict

If James Bond were to trade his Spirit sailing boat for a power yacht, the Bluegame BGX73 might just be his choice.

There's a distinct resemblance to Bond's iconic DB5 in the BGX's sleek, purposeful, and slightly menacing demeanor; it wouldn't seem out of place to mount a gun on the foredeck. However, the Bluegame's focus is on the person holding the checkbook, with a design that revolves around the owner, leaving ample space for occasional guests.

By reimagining the stern area, Bluegame has revolutionized below-deck design, creating an inviting owner's deck. The result is a formidable, pragmatic yacht that challenges conventions while beckoning to be explored and enjoyed. Friends and family are welcome but entirely optional.

Reasons to Buy

  • Uniquely brilliant deck design
  • Owner-focused two or three-cabin interior
  • Powerful 30-knot perfrormance
  • Highly practical, capable and fun fisher, cruiser, gunboat

Things to Consider

  • Less spacious than conventional 70ft sports yachts
  • Sharp, practicality over soft furnishings

Rivals to Consider

It comes as very little surprise to learn that the closest rival to a boat as unique as the Bluegame BGX73 is the Bluegame BG72. The latter has gained its longer moniker thanks to an extended bathing platform, but there are more differences than that. The 72 works to deliver a three-cabin layout with the Owner’s suite in the bow and two twin cabins amidships. The main deck features a more open aft and so larger aft cockpit, with a smaller wheelhouse.

Away from Bluegame, many sports yachts are offering the more usual diet of speed, a deck salon, and three or four cabins below decks. But these aren’t direct rivals. One boat that does offer a similarly enthralling and unique take on design is the Arcadia Sherpa 80XL, with two massive aft decks, a raised bridge, and three superb cabins. Not as fast as the Bluegame, but it still hits a useful 23knots.

Bluegame BGX73 Layout

  • Main Deck Bluegame BGX73

The main deck has two lounges, fore and aft of the central wheelhouse, with safe wide decks to each side. Shades can be mounted across the foredeck.

  • Optional 2 cabin layout

    Lower Deck Bluegame BGX73

The lower deck has a main deck feel with that massive aft deck and big hull-side windows. The aft salon and Owner’s cabin and forward VIP are the standard, but how you use the mid-section is very much open to requirements, with the test boat's extra lounge, a convertible dinette, a third cabin, or perhaps an Owner’s study. The crew quarters are tucked in the bows.
